The Electric Bike: Conveniences of a Car with the Advantages of a Bicycle

The word is getting out and people are enjoying electric bikes!

I have been thinking of quick ways to describe what an electric bike is all about to someone that has no idea what an electric bike is.

Sometimes quick catchy sounds bites can really help someone visualize what these e-bikes are all about.

So far I have come up with this; “Electric bikes combine some conveniences of a car with the advantages of a bicycle”.

Now, I am not saying that this captures the whole idea [Read more…]

How Electric Bikes/Trikes Can Inspire Us!

Electric Trike from Trinity Environ

The other day I got an email from Hung Ly, who owns Trinity Environ in Naples, Florida.  He has been inspired by helping others enjoy riding a bike or a trike again.  I liked his email and I want to share it with you.

His email is in response to one of my emails that I send people when they join the Electric Bike Report community.  The title of my e-mail is “Why do I run Electric Bike Report?”.  Hung took my title and reworded [Read more…]

Electric Bikes + Subway, Bus, Etc. = Sweet Combination!

Do you like the idea of an electric bike, but find yourself being concerned with the range?  Is there an area of town that is not safe to ride your e-bike through?  Never fear, there is a solution to this; combining an electric bike with mass transit options!

The other day I was chatting with an e-bike industry expert/consultant, Ed Benjamin,  about how great this combination is.  So I thought I would talk to the folks at NyceWheels in New York City because they live in a city that is all about mass-transit.

Peter from NyceWheels (not to be confused with me :)) prepared this great article on electric bikes combined with subway and/or bus [Read more…]

Electric Bikes Make Sense for University Campuses!

Electric bikes make a lot of sense for the individual person getting to and from their job and running errands; not to mention just having fun 🙂

They also make a lot of sense for large institutions like universities and colleges, large and small business, airports, hospitals, national and state parks, etc.  Ebikes allow for a convenient way to get around campuses and towns while reducing emissions and in the end saving the organization money.

The following is a guest post from Nora Gildea, VP Marketing at Pietzo Electric Bikes about ebikes on some of the large university campuses.  Enjoy! [Read more…]

Hills? What Hills? E-Bikes in San Francisco [VIDEO]

Here is a fun ebike video that has some great points about electric biking in San Francisco.  It is an ad for a shop in San Fran but it is so well done that I wanted to share it with you.  It’s gotta a catchy tune too!

Ebikes make a lot of sense for a hilly city like San Francisco where normal bike commuting would be a sweaty endeavor!   Don’t get me wrong, I think ebikes are great for all places, it’s just that for places that have a lot of hills and/or wind they make even more sense.

Top 3 Tips For Keeping Your E Bike Running Well

One of the coolest things about electric bikes is how easy it is to keep them running well and how easy it is to repair them.  Cars these days are so complex that even people who used to work on their older cars are forced to take their newer cars to a mechanic for costly maintenance and repairs.  Being able to maintain and repair your own e-bike is another way to save money and an advantage over costly car maintenance.

Here are my top three tips for keeping your electric bike running well. There are many more tips that I will share with you [Read more…]

Video: The Benefits of Riding an Electric Bicycle

This is an older video, but the benefits they go over in the video summarize why electric bikes are a great alternative to driving a car!

There are a couple of things that I would like to point out in the video. This is an electric bike conversion kit that the Michael added to his existing bicycle. The kit might look a little “funky” because it is one of the older kits. Today’s conversion kits are a little cleaner.

He also states that he can go up to 35 mph. That speed is too high to be considered an electric bicycle in the US and other parts of the world. The speed limit in the U.S. and Canada is 20 mph and the speed limit in Europe and other parts of the world (with some exceptions) is 25 kmh or 15.5 mph.

Ebike Success Story from Tucson Arizona

Here’s an ebike success story that I want to share with you.  I really like this story because the author, Matthew Zoll,  has been using an electric bike to make his commute by bicycle more convenient during the hot summer months in Tucson Arizona.

If you live in a warm climate you will be able to relate this story.  In fact electric bikes work well in cold climates too, where sweating a lot can make you cold if you stop somewhere for a while.

Here are some teasers [Read more…]

VIDEO: Bike Commuting Perks: Take the Side Streets to Avoid the Traffic

So I was just out playing around with my iPhone and I recorded this quick video for you. It’s nothing too mind blowing, but it’s just a reminder that one of the cool things about bike commuting is that you can take the side streets, backroads, urban trails, and other bike routes to avoid traffic.

If you want to find some cool bike routes in your city [Read more…]
