Parking Problems? Not With an Electric Bike!
Don’t ya love circling the block for that perfect parking spot? And then worrying about the parking meter running out when you are running errands downtown that are taking longer than expected. Well the cool thing about an electric bike (and regular bike) is the ability to pull up and park as close as possible to where you are going. Oh yeah, and it’s free to park your electric bike!
Parking a bicycle is so much easier than parking a car. It is really nice to be able to pull up to where you are going and find the nearest bike rack or tree and lock your bike to it. That’s it. Done 🙂
Parking a car on the other hand can be a frustrating experience. Circling the block or parking lot for that perfect spot that is as close to the store you are going to is frustrating! Finding that perfect spot is also time consuming. When you consider some of the time you may have saved driving somewhere, it is usually lost while trying to find that parking spot.
Parking an electric bike is free! That’s about all there is to say on that. As a comparison consider how much you pay to park your car on a daily basis. In cities that can be a significant chunk of money on a monthly basis. Just saving money on parking your car for a few months (not to mention gas and maintenance) could easily equal the cost of an electric bike.
Valet bike parking? That’s right there is such a thing! And it’s not your typical valet parking at a fancy hotel or restaurant. That is a funny image though…..imagine rolling up amongst the high rollers in their Mercedes Benz’s and BMW’s and giving the parking attendent your ebike and keys! Anyways back to it.
Bicycle valet parking is usually held at large events like music shows, outdoor markets, and other large gatherings. Bicycle valet parking is usually a large secure area where you give your bike to an attendent and they give you a ticket that is associated with your bike. When you are ready to go you simply give the ticket back to the attendent and they give you your bike back. The valet parking is usually free and is put on by a local bicycle club. It’s a convenient way to securely store all the bikes in one place at a large event. It’s also great to see how many bikes can be parked in an area that only a few cars could be parked in!
What about theft? Just like people breaking into your car there can be issues with people trying to steal your electric bike. My advice is to get a good lock to secure the frame and wheels of your bike and park your bike in an area where there are a lot of people. It’s difficult to steal a bike when there are a lot of people around. Another tip is to use a bolt to secure your seatpost instead of a quick release. That makes it more difficult to steal your seat and seatpost. Ask your local bike shop about this if you are not sure what that means.
To sum it all up parking an electric bike is easy, free and can be a lot less frustrating than parking a car.
Does parking your car drive you a little crazy? Would you like to save money by using an electric bike instead? I’d like to hear from you!

This makes me think of how much my friends in Denver pay for parking places at their apartment complexes or condos! Folks aren't just paying for parking when they leave their homes, sometimes they are paying to park AT home! Just another compelling reason to make the switch to an electric bike!
