eBike News: Solar Wheel, GPS Tracking, Death Valley, Snow Rides, & More! [VIDEOS]

Forbes reports that an intriguing solar e-wheel kit is to be premiered at the forthcoming Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Apparently it will be exhibited by French firm Rool’in, but unfortunately details are brief. 

Rool’in’s website only currently details its conventional kits which come in three wheel sizes, 20″, 26″ and 28″.  The website boasts 5 minute fitting, Samsung batteries and a range of bewteen 30km and 50km depending on the wheel size used.

The kit is compliant with EU bike laws, coming with a pedelec sensor (the sensor can be bought as a separate kit to fit to a second bike, so the wheel can be swapped over quickly and easily). Prices are from €615. Here’s a video [Read more…]

Fantic Arrives in the US

Longstanding motorcycle company Fantic is relatively new to the e-bike game, launching a couple of e-fat bikes in fall 2015 onto the European market.

Things move quickly in the e-bike world and now in fall 2016 Fantic has an 11 model collection and has also just entered the US market, setting up office in Sausalito CA.

Their two e-fat bikes have been joined by five e-MTBs and four e-road/gravel bikes , all powered by the well-regarded Brose motors. [Read more…]

Gocycle is a well-known name in the US and the UK where it was invented and they have recently taken to Kickstarter with a US goal of raising $250,000 to introduce the GoCycle GS to the US market.

The GS starts at $1,699 with the limited supply of “early bird” orders.

Already in Europe there have been three successive designs of the foldable e-bike that uses its own hi-tech technologies such an injection-molded magnesium alloy frame and miniature hub motor integrated into quick release wheels.

Dutch e-bike manufacturer Gazelle has publicised what it sees as the future of e-bikes in the shape of the carbon fibre-framed No1.

Currently a one-off, with many parts hand made, the No.1 is perhaps most notable for its COBI interface and lighting system, undoubtedly one of the smartest of ‘smart’ devices for e-bikes.

Time for an electric bike news update!

It appears that a new and improved lithium battery is on the horizon for electric bikes. It is a lithium sulfur battery chemistry and the hope is that the battery could be significantly lighter and less expensive than the current lithium batteries found on e-bikes.  A note of caution; there has been talk of batteries like this before and those batteries still have not come to market. We will have to see if these lithium sulfur batteries make it to market in the next couple of years.
