For those of us who enjoy taking our tunes on the trail, there are a ton of options.  Lots of companies are making Bluetooth speakers that either attach to your handlebars or fit into a water bottle cage.

Of course, there are performance variations as you’d expect, but one of the biggest challenges is in mounting.  Any speaker, especially one that’s going to go off-roading, needs to be able to take a licking and keep on ticking (my apologies to Timex).

When I visited the new ProdecoTech electric bike assembly facility near Fort Lauderdale, Florida I had a chance to see and test ride some of their new prototype bikes that will be launched in their 2014 line up.

The Ride the Future recently finished at Google headquarters in Mountain View California after 3,700+ miles from Charleston, South Carolina all while setting 4 Guiness World Records for longest electric vehicle trips for the electric car, electric motorcycle, electric scooter, and electric bike!

I had a chance to join the tour for their Flagstaff, Arizona to the Grand Canyon leg of the trip.  I rode an A2B Metro electric bike with Ben Hopkins who set the Guinness Book of World Records for the longest trip on an electric bike (riding an A2B Alva). This is part one of a multi-part story: Why an electric cargo bike, and how do you build one of these?

Earlier in my life, I was a bicycle racer. From about the age of 10 until 30, most waking moments were spent trying to figure out how to go faster on a bicycle. That ended nearly 15 years ago. At that time, cargo bikes weren’t seen on the roads, let alone electric assist cargo bikes. So why now, in my mid 40’s, was I interested in such a machine?
