JUMP! The Rise of Dockless Electric Bike Share Systems

Dockless e-bike sharing programs are landing in major cities around the US and the rest of the world.

A development from the dockless traditional bike market, they both compete favourably in cost with public transport, and due to their range with private car use in many cases.

The media likes a good bad-news story and due to the stacks of dockless bikes left in major cities, there’s a bit of a hurdle to jump before such schemes become widely accepted – and loved – around the world.

Brooklyn, NY, based Jump Bikes is a development of Social Bikes, a traditional bike sharing scheme that has been running for nearly eight years and now has connections to 40 territories around the world.

eBiking Switzerland & Austria: World Advanced Vehicle Expedition (WAVE) [VIDEO]

The eighth annual World Advanced Vehicle Expedition (WAVE) is due to take place in Switzerland and Austria this summer.

For e-bike riders this promises to be a ride of a lifetime with the opportunity to see some of the most stunning parts of Alpine Europe over two eight-day tours. 

Entrants from all over the world are encouraged to sign up before March 20 this year to be part of it.

Should Electric Bikes Be Subsidized Like Electric Cars?

Could government subsidies get more people on e-bikes?

A number of European countries have begun schemes to pay towards the cost of new e-bikes.

In Sweden there is a 25% subsidy for all e-bike sales until 2020.

A UK campaign is growing in strength for their government to do the same. Importantly incentivizing people into buying e-bikes isn’t just to support the industry (as many governments subsidize the oil and gas industry for example).

Pedaling Seattle by Electric Bike: Commuting & eBike Adventures

As an avid bicyclist who hates driving in the city and who pedals for all errands such as grocery shopping and visiting the Post Office, moving to Seattle was both exciting and challenging.

Seattle gets high marks from bicycle advocacy groups, and the city has a decent network of bike lanes, segregated trails and paths.

However, I was among the doubters when a 2016 study ranked the city No. 1 in the country for bicyclists.

How Government Grants Can Help eBike Deliveries

Rob King, Managing Director of Cambridge, UK based Outspoken Delivery spoke to us about how a London borough council supported them into opening a new branch in London. 

Outspoken Delivery was originally a cycle couriers Rob founded in 2005 in the ancient university city of Cambridge.

While the business did well initially, they found that competition was extremely intense so the company moved into ordinary cargo bikes that had 120lb payload capacity, and could be used for last mile deliveries.

Electric Bike Touring Tips From a 70 Year Old Bicycle Tourist

Seventy year old retired manager in the electricity industry, Alan and his friends have been cycle touring for the last 12 or so years.

Here he passes on some tips based on his own experience in riding long distances around the UK. 

He returned to cycling aged 50 on a hybrid bike and one year cycled the 100 or so miles to a friend’s house in Devon from his home in Dorset.
