Riding the Bosch CX Electric Mountain Bike System in Sedona, AZ [VIDEO]

Bosch Sedona electric mountain bike 2As part of their annual press camp with Magura, Bosch was in Sedona to show off their new CX electric mountain bike system on eMTBs from Haibike, KTM, Easy Motion, BULLS, and others.

Kicking the camp off on Monday morning included a nice ride up Schnebly Hill Road that climbs from the high desert of Sedona at 4,500 ft elevation to the cool Ponderosa Pine forest near Flagstaff at 7,000 ft.

eMTB Market Heats Up as Shimano Unveils MTB Version of STEPS Mid Drive System

Shimano STEPS E8000 is the new electric assist system designed specifically for eMTB use and joins the well-established E6000 system already used on many manufacturers city and leisure e-bike models.

According to Shimano the E8000 features a powerful drive unit rated for full-on MTB use (the E6000 system was rated for ‘light off-road use’) and a bigger 500Wh battery.

1/3 of UK Public Transport Users ‘Would’ Switch to Electric Bikes

34% of British people would choose an electric bike over public transport says a recent survey of a thousand people conducted by One Poll for Shimano.

Of course, ‘would’ implies a the change from public transport to e-bikes if something else happens.

In this case the survey results implied high e-bike cost and the perception of cycling safety were barriers to a switch from public transport to e-bikes.

The cruiser is one of the most beloved forms of bicycle. Visit any laid back community, resort or beach town, and you’ll see more cruisers than anything else on two wheels.

eMTB Racing Arrives In North America At The Sea Otter Classic [VIDEO]

On Friday, April 15, 2016 the Sea Otter Classic in Monterey, CA held first ever electric assist mountain bike (eMTB) in North America.

The race was enhanced with support from sponsors Bosch and Haibike.  Bosch even put up a special prize of $5,000 for the winner of the Industry Challenge eMTB Race to donate toward the charity of their choice.

The eMTB course was set on a section of the pro XC course and laps took about 7 minutes to complete. Over the last 25 years, the dirt hills on the inside of the world famous Laguna Seca race track have witnessed some of the best mountain bike racing in North America. Dutch company Solar Application Lab (SAL) is pursuing the dream of bringing to market the electric Solar-bike that never needs to be plugged in to recharge it.

The design uses small solar panel architecture incorporated into the bike’s wheels.

SAL say ‘It is a new type of mobility that is smart, healthy and sustainable. It’s easy to use, low cost and provides benefits for individuals and society.
