Netherlands Pons Acquires US’s Faraday
Showing the growing value of the US e-bike market, European giant Pon Holdings has acquired US’s Faraday.
Faraday makes stylish retro-inspired city bikes and were featured in EBR back in September 2016, where their impressive commercial growth was revealed.

Batteries with Endless Lifespan?
Bike Europe reports that MIT and Samsung have partnered to develop a new solid electrolyte lithium battery that has the potential for an endless lifespan, improved capacity (range), and it could be significantly safer than the current technology.
Because it uses a solid electrolyte there would be “nothing to burn” and the cost to transport lithium batteries could be reduced.

Solar Electric Bike Wheel
Forbes reports that an intriguing solar e-wheel kit is to be premiered at the forthcoming Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Apparently it will be exhibited by French firm Rool’in, but unfortunately details are brief.
Rool’in’s website only currently details its conventional kits which come in three wheel sizes, 20″, 26″ and 28″. The website boasts 5 minute fitting, Samsung batteries and a range of bewteen 30km and 50km depending on the wheel size used.
The kit is compliant with EU bike laws, coming with a pedelec sensor (the sensor can be bought as a separate kit to fit to a second bike, so the wheel can be swapped over quickly and easily). Christmas Deliveries by E-bike in London
East London’s Waltham Forest Council are funding a free local delivery service by e-cargo bike or hybrid van paid for by the paid for by the Mayor’s Air Quality Fund.
It looked to be off to a good start, with Road.cc reporting that 300 parcels had initially been delivered in three days.

Exciting new Speed E-MTB from Nicolai
German MTB manufacturer Nicolai has announced an exciting looking 45kmh e-MTB model that they say will be available from 2017, the EBOXX-3.

UPS Starts eTrike Deliveries in Portland, OR
Well-known global transport logistics firm UPS has started delivery by electric bike in Portland, Oregon reports Bike Portland.

HopMod eBike Frame Kit
There are eBike kits that can turn a conventional bike into an eBike and now there is the HopMod eBike specific frame kit.
Former BMX pro and eBike industry veteran Marty Schlesinger adds the HopMod to the Voltage Cycles line up.
The HopMod is available as a frame, frame with eRad mid drive kit, or complete eBike.

As the author and publisher of a guidebook to a signed bike route between London and Paris I have just been off with my folding, electric assist Dahon to cycle and update the 250 or so miles of the French part of the route. I had a great time; here’s my trip report.
