Tomas Cortijo and Dylan Drake and their kids are currently on an e-bike tour from Montana to Maine and then down to Florida. Here is a news story about them and more info on their Kickstarter page.

EcoSpeed Launches Kickstarter to Ramp Up Production

EcoSpeed, the Portland, Oregon based maker of mid-drive motor systems has launched a Kickstarter campaign and only ten days into the project says it had achieved 53% of its $75,000 goal.

According to EcoSpeed General Manager Brad Davis, “With just over twenty days to go, we’re feeling very good about reaching our goal.

Checkout this portable solar charging solution from EcoSpeed!  It can plug directly into their batteries with a custom converter.

The panels are not cheap but it is exciting to think about the possibility of solar charging while out and about.  It could add a new dimension to e-bike touring.

One of the things that makes electric assist biking so much fun is the varied reasons why people get into it, so this week we begin a new feature called “E-bike Stories”, an opportunity for you to share your story and presumably your passion.

Professor John Luna recently retired from Oregon State University in Corvallis, where he taught agricultural ecology and sustainable farming, concentrating on vegetable growing.  Luna lives about ten miles outside of Corvallis, which he says was about a forty-five to fifty minute bike ride from his home.  He gave lots of thought to speeding the trip,  “I thought that with an electric motor I could get their faster, but even more important, I could have more fun.” [Read more…]
