You know a business is starting to get taken seriously when financial news group Bloomberg starts to hype it. They recently did just that, revealing some interesting stats and quotes about the US electric bike market.

The article showed projected data for 2016 US e-bike sales to be around 152,000; small beer compared to the 1.6 million projected sales for Western Europe.

Whilst it will clearly take a while for the US to catch up, the idea may not be as fanciful as you think according to Claus Fleischer, who heads Bosch’s eBike division. The Portland Electric Bike Expo Report

The city of Portland Oregon is all about bikes and it was fitting to have the Electric Bike Expo in this city that continues to push the envelope of bike infrastructure and bike culture in the U.S.

Riding the Bosch CX Electric Mountain Bike System in Sedona, AZ [VIDEO]

Bosch Sedona electric mountain bike 2As part of their annual press camp with Magura, Bosch was in Sedona to show off their new CX electric mountain bike system on eMTBs from Haibike, KTM, Easy Motion, BULLS, and others.

Kicking the camp off on Monday morning included a nice ride up Schnebly Hill Road that climbs from the high desert of Sedona at 4,500 ft elevation to the cool Ponderosa Pine forest near Flagstaff at 7,000 ft.

eMTB Market Heats Up as Shimano Unveils MTB Version of STEPS Mid Drive System

Shimano STEPS E8000 is the new electric assist system designed specifically for eMTB use and joins the well-established E6000 system already used on many manufacturers city and leisure e-bike models.

According to Shimano the E8000 features a powerful drive unit rated for full-on MTB use (the E6000 system was rated for ‘light off-road use’) and a bigger 500Wh battery.

1/3 of UK Public Transport Users ‘Would’ Switch to Electric Bikes

34% of British people would choose an electric bike over public transport says a recent survey of a thousand people conducted by One Poll for Shimano.

Of course, ‘would’ implies a the change from public transport to e-bikes if something else happens.

In this case the survey results implied high e-bike cost and the perception of cycling safety were barriers to a switch from public transport to e-bikes.

The cruiser is one of the most beloved forms of bicycle. Visit any laid back community, resort or beach town, and you’ll see more cruisers than anything else on two wheels.
