Police Departments Using Electric Bikes as the Best Tool for the Job

Police departments around the USA are starting to see the benefits of e-bikes. 

There have been a number of incidents when police officers on e-bikes have secured arrests where police cars haven’t been able to get to the situation as quickly. 

Police Officer Benjamin Tseng of Federal Way Police Department (near Seattle WA) recounted, “in the very first week we were trialing e-bikes we arrested a wanted felon who had gotten away from officers a couple of weeks prior. When he was spotted, a patrol car pulled up and the subject quickly walked away, trying to blend into a busy parking lot. The patrol car was stuck in traffic but an officer with the ebike was able to zip through traffic and catch up to the subject and arrest him. A Ride A Day Keeps The Doctor At Bay

Could a ride a day keep the doctor at bay?

New research from the University of Birmingham in England suggests that intense exercise can slow down most of the problems associated with aging.

It is never too late to get on your e-bike, as starting at any time in life can help to reverse some of the problems associated with old age.

Lead researcher Professor Janet Lord, Director of the Institute of Inflammation and Ageing Director of the MRC-Arthritis Research UK Centre for Musculoskeletal Ageing Research, published the research in the journal, Aging Cell this month.

Could Electric Bikes Be Killing Off America’s Car Addiction?

Research published in September last year suggested that US e-bike users may use their cars less, and many do this to help fight Climate Change. 

The study, “Differences of Cycling Experiences and Perceptions between E-Bike and Bicycle Users in the United States” was published in the Sustainability scientific journal.

The researchers asked 806 online respondents a range of questions related to their e-bike use. There were three groups – conventional bicycle only owners, a second group who had both an e-bike and a a bicycle, and a third group who only had an e-bike.

Dockless e-bike sharing programs are landing in major cities around the US and the rest of the world.

A development from the dockless traditional bike market, they both compete favourably in cost with public transport, and due to their range with private car use in many cases.

The media likes a good bad-news story and due to the stacks of dockless bikes left in major cities, there’s a bit of a hurdle to jump before such schemes become widely accepted – and loved – around the world.

Brooklyn, NY, based Jump Bikes is a development of Social Bikes, a traditional bike sharing scheme that has been running for nearly eight years and now has connections to 40 territories around the world.
