Research published in September last year suggested that US e-bike users may use their cars less, and many do this to help fight Climate Change.
The study, “Differences of Cycling Experiences and Perceptions between E-Bike and Bicycle Users in the United States” was published in the Sustainability scientific journal.
The researchers asked 806 online respondents a range of questions related to their e-bike use. There were three groups – conventional bicycle only owners, a second group who had both an e-bike and a a bicycle, and a third group who only had an e-bike.
Electric Bike Report spoke to one of the researchers on the project, Ziwen Ling of the University of Tennessee about the findings of their report. [Read more…] about Could Electric Bikes Be Killing Off America’s Car Addiction?

A development from the dockless traditional bike market, they both compete favourably in cost with public transport, and due to their range with private car use in many cases.
The media likes a good bad-news story and due to the stacks of dockless bikes left in major cities, there’s a bit of a hurdle to jump before such schemes become widely accepted – and loved – around the world.
Brooklyn, NY, based Jump Bikes is a development of Social Bikes, a traditional bike sharing scheme that has been running for nearly eight years and now has connections to 40 territories around the world.
There are now nine Jump Bikes e-bike sharing schemes in the US, Canada and Europe, and the company is running a pilot with Uber in San Francisco. [Read more…] about JUMP! The Rise of Dockless Electric Bike Share Systems

For the past few weeks I have been riding a Riese & Muller New Charger GH Nuvinci around the sometimes extraordinarily steep and often fascinating hills of the South Pennines.
This particular e-bike and the terrain seemed like a great fit on paper; some ancient packhorse tracks (sometimes with the original 18th century cobbles or flags), lovely old mill villages and some of the steepest hills in the UK could be explored on a bike seemingly made for such rugged terrain in biking comfort.
I had lived near the area for much of my life and every time I’d visited had discovered some interesting new village or track that was not on the tourist map.
So, having moved much nearer the area 12 months ago, I was keen to explore this area of rugged moors and hills lying in a triangle between Hebden Bridge, Penistone and Tintwistle in more depth and to get off the beaten track in the best way possible – by e-bike.
