bike_mit_komponenten-2Panasonic 2-speed Mid-drive Now Award Nominated 

Of the various e-bike contenders for the Dutch based 2017 Fiets Awards one caught our eye.  

The speed pedelec FLYER U-series utilises a 2-speed Panasonic motor with manual and automatic switching options; in theory this should give a much wider range of speeds over which the motor can operate efficiently, which could in theory mean greater range, greater climbing ability and more assistance at speed.

Panasonic and Flyer class it as a ‘world-first’ so it will be interesting to see just how it fares at the awards.

Bike Europe reports that MIT and Samsung have partnered to develop a new solid electrolyte lithium battery that has the potential for an endless lifespan, improved capacity (range), and it could be significantly safer than the current technology. 

Because it uses a solid electrolyte there would be “nothing to burn” and the cost to transport lithium batteries could be reduced.

Not only that, but this eBMX is assembled near Ft. Lauderdale Florida!

The Life EV eBMX provides assist up to 20 mph with a stated range of 25 to 40 mph and there are many color options to choose from.

eBike News: Solar Wheel, GPS Tracking, Death Valley, Snow Rides, & More! [VIDEOS]

Forbes reports that an intriguing solar e-wheel kit is to be premiered at the forthcoming Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Apparently it will be exhibited by French firm Rool’in, but unfortunately details are brief. 

Rool’in’s website only currently details its conventional kits which come in three wheel sizes, 20″, 26″ and 28″.  The website boasts 5 minute fitting, Samsung batteries and a range of bewteen 30km and 50km depending on the wheel size used.

The kit is compliant with EU bike laws, coming with a pedelec sensor (the sensor can be bought as a separate kit to fit to a second bike, so the wheel can be swapped over quickly and easily).
