2017 Focus JAM² & BOLD² Electric Mountain Bikes & Extra Battery Option [VIDEO]
Focus has launched their new 2017 electric mountain bikes, the JAM² full suspension eMTB line, and the BOLD² hardtail eMTB line.
These new eMTB’s all feature the new Shimano E800 mid drive electric mountain bike system, and a few of the premium models feature the Shimano Di2 electronic shifting!
These new eMTB’s feature an integrated battery in the downtube of the frame (378 Wh) and Focus is offering an extra battery option that mounts on top of the downtube and doubles the capacity to 756 Wh.
These bikes are initially being launched in specific European markets and some of them will be available in the US in 2018.

Extra Battery Option
For those looking to do longer rides Focus has introduce an external battery option that adds to the battery built into the downtube of the new JAM² and BOLD² frames.
The system is called Tailored Energy Concept (T.E.C.) and there are three different options:
- Integrated frame battery at 378 watt hour battery capacity
- Option of installing an additional battery (T.E.C. pack) on top of the downtube using a simple click system for a total of 756 watt hour battery capacity
- Fitting a bottle cage using a simple click system (Smart Rack)
It is nice to see that all of the battery weight (even with the extra battery) is relatively centered and low on these bikes for solid overall handling.
Focus has designed their frames to provide airflow around the integrated frame batteries to keep them cool. Here is more information on their VENTILATION² system.
