Portland Electric Bike Expo & National Bike Month [VIDEOS]

May is national bike month and the Electric Bike Expo will be in Portland, Oregon; a city that lives and breathes bike culture!

The Portland Electric Bike Expo is on May 20-22 at the Lloyd Center and it is the place for you to ride the latest electric bikes.

And best of all it’s completely free to attend and test ride as many eBikes as you like!

There are a lot of fun activities and events happening in Portland during the month of May and the Expo adds to the festivities by opening on national bike to work day, May 20th.

At the Expo there will be 20 different brands and over 100 different eBikes to choose from to ride on the test track. The test track has a hill structure to test the different eBike climbing capabilities and terrain features to test the suspension of some of the  eBikes.

There will be bikes from A2B, BESV, BULLS, Easy Motion, Focus, Gazelle, Haibike, IZIP, Kalkhoff, Raleigh, Stromer, Tempo (Expo Charity Sponsor), Trek (Expo Track Sponsor), Xtracycle, Yuba with the latest electric drive systems from Bosch (Expo Presenting Sponsor), Yamaha, Shimano, and more.

Many of the models are brand new to the US and here to be tested by you for the very first time!

During the month of May the Bicycle Transportation Alliance (BTA) in Portland is running their Bike More Challenge; “we challenge everyone across Oregon to get out of their cars and get on their bikes and see who can #bikemore during the month of May. Ride your bike to work, the grocery store, or for fun and log all of your trips at bikemorechallenge.com! The Challenge is a state-wide, month-long friendly competition between workplaces to see who can get the greatest percentage of employees to log the most trips on their bike. At the end we tally the results, give out awards in different categories of company size and sector, and celebrate everyone’s hard work and commitment for that month.”

Rack up some miles at the Portland Electric Bike Expo for the Bike More Challenge!

The BTA is also holding their Employer Bike Summit when the Expo opens on May 2oth. Employers in the area will learn about ways to provide incentives for their employees to commute to work by bike.

In addition to checking out and riding the latest electric bikes at the Expo, you can also meet electric bike celebrities!

Mike Minnick and his dog Bixby will be at the Portland Expo as they recently kicked off their big eBike tour at the Palo Alto Expo. Mike and Bixby are touring on a Yuba Spicy Curry electric cargo bike to encourage pet adoption and beat the current world record for longest electric bike ride with more than 10,000 miles of riding!

The E-Bike Expo events are free to attend and there are no sales that happen at Expo events to keep them fun and informative. If you are interested in buying an electric bike, many of the exhibitors are offering discount coupons at the Expo that can be redeemed at local eBike dealers.

In addition to discounts there is the possibility of winning an electric bike!

Tempo Bicycles will be raffling off one of their Carmel or Santa Barbara hybrid electric bicycles worth $4,000 to a lucky winner and the raffle proceeds will go to Portland local charities. The raffle tickets are $5 each and there will be multiple charities to buy the raffle tickets from to increase your chances to win a Tempo hybrid electric bicycle!

Easy Motion will be giving away a 350W EVO Jet electric bike worth $2,800 to one lucky person who test rides any of their bikes!

And here is list of the companies that are offering discount coupons redeemable at local dealers.

Raleigh and IZIP are offering significant discounts, ~15% off retail, AND a $100 gift card rebate direct from IZIP or Raleigh.

Yuba will be offering a 10% coupon for their Spicy Curry e-cargo bike redeemable at one of their local dealers.

Focus will be offering $200 discount coupons for attendees that ride their e-bikes at Expo events.

Kalkhoff will be offering $200 discount coupons for attendees that ride their e-bikes at Expo events.

Gazelle will be offering $200 discount coupons for attendees that ride their e-bikes at Expo events.

Local retailers such as Cynergy Electric Bikes, the eBike Store and others will be present in their own spaces to offer information on their bikes and services.

The Electric Bike Expo will also be held in Denver, CO (June 17-19), Seattle, WA (July 15-17), Washington DC (early October), Atlanta, GA (November) and Ft. Lauderdale (early December).  Stay tuned to the Expo website for more on that!
