It’s fair to say that Rad Power Bikes helped popularize fat tire e-bikes as we know them today. They don’t seem to be content to churn out the same stuff year after year though. Our Rad Power Bikes Radster Trail review shows the company is taking a fresh approach to the category they helped make mainstream.

The Radster Trail is a mid-size fat tire e-bike with a 27.5X 3.0″ tire, it has a newly designed motor with a serious 100 Nm torque with faster speeds, and Rad’s upping the ante on battery safety with their all-new Safe Shield technology. Those three features represent a slight twist on a classic, a more contemporary experience, and bold new innovation, respectively.

Most fat tire e-bikes come equipped with 4 inch tires. Some go even bigger. Rad Power opted for a 3 inch tire, which we found holds a nice balance between stability and agility.

But what really sets the Radster Trail apart is, at its heart – the most powerful and efficient motor Rad Power has ever engineered. The 750W motor on the Radster Trail has a whopping 100 Nm of torque that produced Rad’s best hill test results to date, while also improving the rider experience with a more natural-feeling torque sensor for its engagement. It also is capable of class 3 speeds (something they left off the RadRover 6 Plus) with available 25 or 28 mph speed settings.

And at a time where battery safety is ever-present in the headlines, Rad is setting a standard we expect others to follow. Their new tech helps better protect the battery, and mitigate catastrophic accidents.

Electric cruiser bikes are as much about the looks as they are the ride, and the classic beach cruiser — a low-slung, laid back style of e-bike with swept bars and a broad seat — is a timeless look.

But a classic beach cruiser the Ride1UP Cafe Cruiser is not. It shares many of the same design elements, including the swept bars, extremely comfortable ride and a focus on aesthetics, but instead of drawing its inspiration from California beach culture, the Cafe Cruiser takes its cues from motorcycles.

In this Ride1UP Cafe Cruiser review, we put the bike through its paces in a series of real world tests designed to push the bike and its componentry to their functional limits. We test its hill climbing ability, its braking and even how far you can go on a single charge.

Built by a California-based e-bike brand with a focus on making really well done affordable e-bikes, the Cafe Cruiser boasts the looks and component package of a bike that costs several hundred dollars more. Its low price and good performance makes it an appealing choice for those on a tight budget or someone looking for a bargain.

Though our testing did reveal a small handful of performance tradeoffs you may not see on a more expensive e-bike, overall the Ride1UP Cafe Cruiser is an exemplary performing e-bike considering its price and intended use case.

This third iteration of the bike features a couple of small upgrades that make a massive difference:

Aventon replaced the old cadence sensor with a torque sensor that greatly improves the bike’s ride and responsiveness. And the addition of turn signals adds an additional layer of safety by increasing rider visibility.

The Pace 500.3 retains the 500.2’s dutch-inspired, cruiser geometry, which places the rider in a comfortable position and gives them a broad view of their surroundings. This makes the bike well-suited to occasional riders and daily commuters alike.

Moped-style e-bikes are decidedly on the rise, with more and more Super73 imitators releasing their take on the popular design with each passing day. It’s usually a bad idea to run late to the party – that is, unless you want to make a dramatic entrance. With the Revv 1, Ride1UP smashed through the front door, scattered the revelers on the dance floor, and cannonballed into the swimming pool! In this Ride1UP Revv 1 review, we wring out our shirts while we cover this moto-inspired e-bike’s specs and performance.

Where many e-bikes make you do a hefty chunk of the heavy lifting, the Ride1UP Revv 1 allows you to take it easy with a relaxed and comfortable ride. We think most riders are likely to operate the machine with just its throttle, but if you choose to use the bike’s pedals, you won’t have to worry about working up a sweat. With a single gear and a cadence sensor, the motor requires only a casual turning of the cranks to jump in and take over.

When that happens, look out! The Revv 1 can launch into motion and quickly get up to its (shipped) Class 2 speed limit of 20 miles per hour. Even the bike’s lowest pedal assist system (PAS) setting is capable of reaching fast speeds, making it practical for extending the distance a rider can go on a single charge of the battery. Ride1UP advertises a range of 30-60 miles, and we put that claim to the test!

With so much good, you might expect to pay a premium for the Revv 1, but you’d be surprised there, too. In typical Ride1UP fashion, the Revv is so competitively priced that we’re not sure how they get away with it.

The Aventon Aventure.2 Step-Through we’re reviewing is one of the most popular e-bikes on the road today. The original Aventure gained a loyal following thanks to its impressive combination of features that check off many riders’ wish lists: sharp handling, quick acceleration, high cruising speeds, powerful brakes, long-lasting battery life, easy operation, and a comfortable ride—all for under $2,000.

Specialized Turbo Tero X 5.0 E-Bike Review

Want one bike that will both get you to work in the city and let you hit the local singletrack on the weekend?

When the Specialized Turbo Tero X 5.0 showed up at the office for review, we found ourselves asking: how are we going to handle this bike?

At first glance, it’s an obvious electric commuter. It has fenders, lights, a bell, pannier racks, and if nothing else gives it away: a kickstand.

However, when we took a look at the bike’s components our attitude started to change: SRAM CODE brakes, Rockshock suspension (130mm/120mm), trail ready tires, a 200mm dropper seat post, a mullet design (29” wheels in front, 27.5” in rear), and a full-powered motor (the Specialized 2.0 with 70 Nm of torque). In other words, this also looked like a truly capable eMTB that can take on your local single track.

Specialized has always been fantastic when it comes to marketing language for their e-bikes. With the new Turbo Tero X, their marketing team came up with the tagline: “You’re going to need a bigger map”

So, as we dive into our Turbo Tero X 5.0 Review, we are going to attempt to answer that question for you and see if you do, in fact, need a bigger map. Can you go from the office to the cross country trails and everything in between?

Our short answer: 100% yes.

On the Tero X 5.0 model we reviewed, we took the bike and pushed it to its limits both on city streets (ok, as ‘city’ as we can get here in southern Utah) to rough and chunky single track (of which we have more than our fair share of).

After our testing, we would be hard pressed to find ourselves not recommending the Turbo Tero X to even the die-hard commuter. If the bike is a capable commuter AND can be taken on single track, why settle for “just” a commuter?

Aventon had an instant classic on their hands when the original Level ST debuted. With the Aventon Level 2 ST now in our hands for review, we had high hopes that this updated model would build on an already excellent foundation.

Aventon didn’t overhaul the bike but made a few key changes that have a big impact. Swapping out the cadence sensor for a torque sensor is the most notable upgrade, and it significantly enhances both the bike’s performance and the overall ride quality. Straight out of the box, the difference was clear: the Level 2 ST feels more like a traditional bike, with an added touch of ‘you’re in control.’ The torque sensor encourages a more engaged pedaling experience while still offering the convenience of higher assist levels and throttle when you want to take it easy.

This more natural pedal-assist system also boosts the bike’s efficiency. By augmenting your effort rather than replacing it, the Level 2 ST can cover more ground on a single charge—all without increasing the battery’s size or weight.

Beyond the torque sensor, the Level 2 ST continues to excel at its core mission: being a rock-solid commuter e-bike. Mokwheel has created something truly unique with the Basalt, a fat tire e-bike with some of the coolest add-ons we’ve ever seen. We at Electric Bike Report discuss the bike’s accessories, features, real-world performance, and more in this Mokwheel Basalt review!

Mokwheel refers to the Basalt (as well as the Scoria, which we reviewed earlier this year) as a Power Station E-bike; it can power a host of devices when combined with an optional 1000W power inverter with USB-C, USB-A, and DC5521 outlets. Add in the optional solar panels and take your adventures to the next level; there’s no such thing as limited range or power when you have the sun!

Even without its accessories, the Basalt is still a solid e-bike. Its 750W motor has the power to keep pace with other heavyweights in the fat tire category, and delivers both electrifying speeds and the power to conquer nearly any incline. It’s a bike where the word “punch” quickly comes to mind from the first ride.

With all that brawn, you might expect it to feel like a rocket, but the Basalt’s motor engages smoothly and comfortably (though its intensity can be adjusted). A torque sensor sets the Basalt apart from many of its competitors as well; this provides power from the motor responsively and gives the bike a natural-feeling ride similar to a traditional bike.

Ride1UP Prodigy V2 LX Review | Premium Ride, Affordable Cost

Ride1UP has built a reputation for creating exceptional e-bikes that cater to a wide range of rider needs. They’ve consistently impressed us with their ability to deliver outstanding value, often including premium features at price points where you wouldn’t expect them. Our review of the Ride1UP Prodigy V2 LX confirms that this bike raises the bar even higher.

This e-bike is something of a paradox. At every turn, it feels like a premium e-bike—yet it’s surprisingly affordable. At first glance, it looks like a commuter bike. However, a closer inspection reveals that it’s also equipped for trekking and long-distance touring. With knobby tires and robust range capabilities, it’s ready to leave paved roads behind and explore the unknown.

The Prodigy V2 LX is amongst the most expensive e-bikes the brand has made to date, yet it’s a standout in terms of value. Compared to similar models, it’s at least $1,000—sometimes even $3,000—cheaper than its competitors.

There was great focus on the total ride experience. It starts with a 250W Brose mid-drive motor paired with a 504Wh battery, delivering excellent range and smooth, consistent power. The drivetrain features an Enviolo Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) hub, which ensures effortless gear transitions, whether you’re climbing hills, descending, or cruising.

Thanks to the Enviolo hub, Ride1UP could include a Gates carbon belt drive instead of a traditional chain. This upgrade offers several benefits: it’s quieter, requires less maintenance, and feels more intuitive to operate.

The Prodigy V2 LX comes loaded with features that elevate the rider’s experience. Stopping power is handled by 4-piston Tektro hydraulic disc brakes, providing confident control in all conditions. The bike also includes a full commuter package with integrated front and rear lights, fenders, a rear rack, and a kickstand.

One standout feature I really enjoyed was the air-spring suspension fork. The difference between an air fork and a coil-spring fork is like the difference between lemons and lemonade—it’s a significant upgrade in terms of ride quality and adjustability.

I’ve reviewed three variations of the Prodigy, and this latest version is the best yet. The Prodigy V2 LX might be the best-value e-bike Ride1UP has ever made. Note: I said best value, not least expensive. While there are more budget-friendly options in Ride1UP’s lineup, it’s hard to imagine a bike that delivers more in terms of performance, features, and quality at this price.

That’s a solid overview—but now it’s time to dig into the data from our testing.
