As an aspiring young writer, one of his first articles was about how he and other local kids built a 5-foot by 15-foot ramp for jumping their BMX bikes over a mud pit in his neighborhood. Forrest and his friends used the article to promote a competition event, where they sold front row seats — using borrowed beach chairs — at five cents a seat. In essence, Forrest earned his first writing gig before middle school. He continued to write in high school and college before settling in the business world, writing about more mundane topics like human resource data analysis and employee performance reviews. When the EBR team invited Forrest to join them, he was happy to incorporate his decades of bicycle and motorcycle experience in testing and writing about electric bicycles. Analyzing bikes from the perspective of a longtime rider, consumer and certified bicycle mechanic (trained by the United Bicycle Institute), Forrest gives his honest take on the pros and cons of the bikes he tests and writes about, so readers can get an accurate description before purchasing their e-bike.

Aventon’s new Pace 500.3 Step Through (ST) is an example of how a company can make an already-great bike even greater. In our review of version 2, we found this bike already has a lot going for it in power, range and riding comfort. The Pace is popular with many riders because it has an upright posture, and slightly curved handlebar that makes it feel like a “Dutch” bike. Aventon has sold a lot of the previous version of this lightweight commuter/cruiser because of its ease of operation, comfortable ride, and how light and easy it is to lift onto a bike rack. And the frame is known for accommodating a wide size range of riders.

This time around Aventon has made a few welcome changes to on the Pace 500.3 Step Through. Replacing the cadence sensor with a torque sensor was something we had our fingers crossed that they might do. Aventon also changed the tuning on the motor, dumping the old 5-level PAS system with a more refined 4-level system. So, we were super stoked to ride this bike and see what new changes Aventon made compared to the old model.

In this review of Rad Power Bikes’ new RadRunner 3 Plus electric bike, you will learn how this bike has evolved from its predecessors to become one of the best all-purpose e-bikes around. E-bike popularity is soaring to new heights, and more new riders want an e-bike that satisfies a variety of needs – anything from running errands to dropping off their youngest at pre-school, to commuting to the office, and even riding for fun on the weekend. Multi-purpose e-bikes are the “in” thing now, and the RadRunner 3 Plus fills that need beautifully.

This is a Class 2 electric bike, meaning it will travel up to 20 mph using pedal assist or throttle. Some of the features this bike shares with its RadRunner brethren include its 750-watt rear hub motor, and 20” x 3.3” tires. All three have step-thru frames, but the RadRunner 3 Plus sports a new and improved frame that gives it better handling and boosts its total carrying capacity to 350 lbs, making it better for carrying cargo than the earlier models.

When I started the Evelo Dash review, I found myself thinking this folding e-bike was limited in what it can do.
