Best Moped-Styled E-Bikes | 6 Speedy & Super Fun Rides

The Revv 1 DRT from Ride1Up is a highly moto-influenced design made for rough-and-tumble riding in rugged off-road conditions. It’s a true powerhouse of an e-bike with a punchy, torquey 1000W rear-hub motor, chunky tires, and a robust suspension system. While not a true dirt bike, it’s about as close as an e-bike can get!

The DRT’s motor is one of its biggest highlights, giving the bike fast acceleration, plenty of power for tearing through just about any environment, and the ability to sustain speeds upwards of 35 mph when set to the bike’s unlimited off-road mode. We took it out to play on a desert course filled with jumps and tight turns, where it delivered every bit of the thrills we hoped for.

Comfort is another defining feature of this bike. Its long seat is well-padded, and the ride is softened extremely well by the bike’s full suspension, making even rocky, washed-out dirt roads feel smooth and easygoing. The bike’s long wheelbase also keeps it feeling stable and balanced.

With its name and aggressive appearance, the DRT is clearly intended for off-road riding, but we found that it does just as well on paved roads. While we recommend checking your local laws to ensure it doesn’t need to be registered, we think this bike would make a great commuter or leisure ride when you’re not tearing up your local dirt tracks or OHV areas.

The Ride1UP Revv 1 FS absolutely floored us with its looks, price tag, and overall performance!

Visually, the bike leans heavily into its cafe-racer-inspired design, with its low frame, extended seat, dual-crown suspension fork, and motorcycle-style headlamp. It’s simply one of the best-looking bikes we’ve seen, and we could very easily have placed it on this list of the best moped-style e-bikes for that feature alone.

Fortunately, the Revv 1 kicks some serious tail in the performance department, too. The bike features a 750W motor to increase its likelihood of meeting legal Class 2 and Class 3 requirements. It ships with a top speed of 20 mph, but it can be unlocked to 28 mph through pedal-assist, or to unrestricted, insanely fun speeds around 35 mph in Off-Road mode.

The Revv 1 relies on a 52V motor and battery, which delivers much more power than the 36V or 48V systems standard on most other styles of e-bike. This allows it to reach impressive speeds and climb hills like a boss! It’s remained one of the best climbers among all e-bikes we’ve evaluated, with the fastest result of any moped-style bike in our Hill Test.

As we expected from a Ride1UP bike, it’s also super wallet-friendly and comes in three spec levels; each has a well-deserved spot on this list. While the DRT model is best for off-road environments and the HT model is a great choice for riders on a budget, we recommend the FS model for those seeking a relaxed, comfortable ride when sticking to paved surfaces.

The EUYBike S4 is a standout in the budget moto-style e-bike category, offering a super-fun ride without the hefty price tag. Priced at around $1200, this is one of the most affordable bikes of its style we’ve reviewed—but we never thought it felt cheap or underpowered.

This bike is propelled by a peppy 1000W rear hub motor, allowing it to cruise up to thrilling 30+ mph speeds right out of the box. Our test bike was equipped with a 960 Wh battery that delivered respectable range in our testing, but the newer model boasts a larger 1200 Wh battery that promises even longer distances.

Considering the price, it would have been easy for EUYbike to skimp on features, but the S4 packs in all the functionality we expect from a more expensive ride.

For starters, it includes a full suspension for comfort and a seat extension pad to accommodate a passenger (footpegs are available separately). The S4 also offers extensive customization through its settings menu, giving riders control over speed, throttle behavior, motor engagement, etc. We were impressed with the bike’s feel and performance both on and off the pavement!

The S4’s affordability and capabilities make it a compelling choice for commuters, adventurers, and thrill seekers alike. Whether tackling rough fire roads or urban commutes on asphalt paths, this bike can handle a bit of everything. It’s ideal for riders looking to enjoy a fast, fun, and customizable biking experience at a price that’s hard to beat.

You might think of brightly-colored beach cruisers when you hear Electric Bike Company’s name, but the Model J proves that the brand has more than relaxed, retro-styled models up its sleeve. This e-bike blends EBC’s trademark comfort and customization with a slightly more aggressive, moto-inspired design to create an approachable, one-of-a-kind ride.

Like the brand’s iconic cruisers, the Model J is painted and assembled here in the USA, with some components, such as wheels, built in-house. This approach allows EBC to offer a nearly unparalleled level of customization over the bike’s colors and components; buyers can completely tailor the bike’s look, feel, and performance to their preferences at purchase.

For example, the base-level Model J comes in a handful of color options, but customers can mix and match over 40 colors for the frame, fork, chain guard, etc., or have custom colors made. The bike comes standard with a single battery and a throttle range of about 25 miles, but it can be outfitted with up to three power supplies for even longer rides. Those are just a handful of the options!

On top of its bonkers level of customization, we loved the Model J’s handling. It’s relatively light and has larger-than-average 24” wheels, so it has better steering and greater maneuverability than most similar moped-style bikes we’ve tested. Our test bike came with sturdy BMX-style handlebars that added to its controlled feel, but that’s just one more thing that can be changed!

We recommend the Model J to those seeking a bike with heaps of personality, unique old-school styling, and approachable power levels. With so many ways to make it your own, it’s sure to stand out and turn heads!

The hardtail model of the Ride1UP Revv 1 is ideal for those who admired the full-suspension or DRT versions but found both other bikes slightly out of their budget. Despite being several hundred dollars cheaper, this model maintains much of the same ride experience with plenty of power and comfort for on- and off-road adventures.

Like its siblings, the Revv 1 HT is configured as a Class 2 e-bike, with options to unlock to Class 3 or Off-Road mode through the settings menu. It shares the same powerful 1000W hub motor with 95Nm of torque for easy climbing and has a top-end speed of 30+ mph.

As a somewhat stripped-down version of the Revv, it has a few differences from the full-suspension and DRT models. The bike features a standard suspension fork instead of a dual-crown fork, and it does not include a rear shock. It also has a slightly smaller battery and a slightly lower peak wattage, trading some range and acceleration for a lower price.

Despite these changes, the ride quality remains excellent; it’s comfortable, quick, and cool-looking. We liked that Ride1Up specced this version with knobby Kenda Krusade tires that give the bike the ability to hit dirt or gravel roads in addition to paved surfaces.

With versatiliy in where it can ride and a price that won’t break the bank, the Revv 1 HT is a compelling choice for those seeking a high-performance e-bike at an economical price point.

With a design reminiscent of an early army motorcycle, the Valen Rev+ from Retrospec looks cool, feels comfy, and rides fast.

Unlike many bikes in the moped category with high-powered motors that may require registration, the Valen Rev+ is likely to be street-legal in most areas. The bike has a powerful but controlled 750W hub motor with a throttle speed of 20 mph and pedal assist up to 28 mph. These limitations make it both speedy and safe—an excellent combo in states or cities with strict e-bike laws.

Controlled speeds also help the Valen Rev+ to extend its battery charge; the bike gave us one of the best results from the moped category in our throttle-only Range Test. In fact, the bike scored well across the board, reinforcing Retrospec as a manufacturer of bikes that are cool, well-priced, and solidly performing.

On top of great all-around performance, the Valen has one of the longest continuous seats of any moped-style e-bike we’ve tested. It can accommodate a single rider up to 350 lbs, making it an excellent choice for heavier folks. Once outfitted with optional footpegs, it’s also one of the best bikes of its style for carrying a passenger.

Considering its comfort factor and impressive range, we think this bike would be an excellent choice for the daily trip to and from work or school. It’s also incredibly fun to take out for a relaxing cruise!

Even in a relatively niche category like moto- or moped-style e-bikes, there are many hundreds of models on the market to choose from. We leveraged our team’s collective knowledge and experience gained from riding hundreds of e-bikes to select those that felt and performed the best.

We evaluated all of the moped-style bikes we’ve tested and selected standouts based on a few key criteria:

• Speed and Overall Performance: If there is any particular category of e-bike with a reputation for speed, those of the moped style take the proverbial cake. The models we selected are fast and lots of fun to ride, but we didn’t stop there! We picked models that did well in all or most areas of our testing, including range, stopping power, hill climbing ability, etc.
• Value: The e-bike market has grown flush with overpriced and underspecced electric bikes that don’t offer much value. We think every bike on this list is fairly priced, with many options that offer better/more features and performance than you’ll find on more expensive models.
• Comfort and Ride Feel: With many models taking visual cues from motorcycles and/or motorbikes, we found it important that our selections matched their looks with a great-feeling ride. Whether meant for off-road tracks or paved city streets, we picked e-bikes that feel comfortable and capable in their intended environment.
• Unique Designs or Features: There are many e-bike categories—particularly at the affordable end of the spectrum—flush with copycat brands and models that just aren’t that special. We picked bikes that stand out in some way, whether that be in looks, affordability, included features, performance, or a combination of these qualities.

Iconic brands like Super73 helped to define and popularize the moto/moped e-bike style. While we’ve tested bikes from these companies and found them to be decent performers, our testing has shown that newer and smaller brands are often the ones breaking new ground in terms of features and overall value.

We’ve found that, like with most products, e-bikes from the manufacturers with the most brand recognition can be unnecessarily overpriced. Buyers who value brand cachet may not mind spending more than is necessary, but we’d prefer to steer consumers toward bikes that offer great performance at a broadly accessible price.

We’re confident that each bike on our list is a smart purchase that balances cost, quality, and capability. Of course, with new e-bike models coming out every week, keeping up with the demand is a challenge. As such, this may not be a comprehensive list, but we do think our choices offer a good variety to satisfy most riders.
