In many ways it is hard to believe, but the E-Bike Cycle Tourists quest to set a new world e-bike long distance record in mainland Europe and the UK has come to a successful conclusion after e-biking 27,800kms over the past 16 months.

The journey, which took us through 13 countries from London in April 2015 through to Friedrichshafen in Germany in August 2016, not only smashed the previous record of 16,047kms, but hopefully set a new challenging benchmark for someone else to better. [Read more…]

At approximately the half way mark of the e-Bike Cycle Tourists world e-bike long distance record ride, the time has come for us to review our Haibike xDuro RX Trekking Electric Bikes as supplied by sponsor

In the lead-up to setting out on our record-breaking ride, which has now seen us cycle more than 12,000 kilometres through 11 countries over seven months, the number one priority was to source an e-bike that ticked all of the boxes needed to successfully complete a self-contained long distance cycle tour of more than 20,000kms while towing a fully laden trailer. Long distance cycle touring, as the e-Bike Cycle Tourists have discovered time and time again over the past four months, is a daily exercise in the unknown … basically you just never know what is around the next corner or what is going to happen next.

Or, as Forrest Gump so famously quoted in the Academy Award-winning movie of the same name, “Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get.”

Since setting out from Harwich on the east coast of England on August 12 to circumnavigate the UK after 7000-plus kilometres of cycling in Europe as we e-bike our way to a [Read more…]

And without doubt the most common question asked is how we manage to charge our Haibike e-bike batteries on a daily basis.

Prior to setting out on our trip the question of battery charging, as is the case with many of the people who have contacted us, was a real concern. [Read more…]

bosch 1000 kmBy Gary Corbett.

In more ways than one it has been a big week for the e-Bike Cycle Tourists.

Not only did we clock up our first 1000 kilometres of our overall target –now 1381 kms – to cycle in excess of 16,047 kms to set a new world e-bike long distance record, but we also made the much anticipated ferry crossing from Plymouth in the UK to Roscoff in France.

After two weeks of being overawed by the scenery as we cycled through the south of the UK from London to Plymouth, we have found that [Read more…]
