HeyBike Ranger S Review | A Rare Find; 750W Folder!

A powerful folding fat-tire e-bike with speed, stability, and awesome value!

As a newer player in the e-bike market, Heybike has solidified its place by trying a unique approach. With the Ranger S, the company created a folding fat-tire e-bike with uncommon features – and gave it an awesomely affordable price! We tested the bike’s brakes, range, speed, and uphill power to present our findings in this Heybike Ranger S Review!

The Ranger S features a 750-watt motor (a rarity on a folder) that can blast the bike up to Class 3 speeds of 28 miles per hour! Most folders tend to stick at or below 25 mph – and some aren’t even the most stable feeling there. The Ranger S earned our respect through its confidence and stability at top speed!

With everything it offers, the bike’s price tag of around $1500 is simply hard to beat. We especially loved that it includes turn signals on both its headlight and taillight; only a handful of the bikes we’ve tested had this feature – and none of them were folding e-bikes. Safety is paramount, so we’ll give kudos to any brand that can up the ante!

We found that the bike had decent range despite its relatively small battery – but riders can hit the road again quickly thanks to its fast 4-amp charger. Some batteries can take 7 or 8 hours to recharge, but the Ranger S’ battery can fill up in roughly three and a half.

E-Bike News: Trek’s Electra Gos Moped Style, Addmotor E-trike & Lots More!

High profile and very well-established US brand Trek made something of a stir this week with the announcement of a moped-style e-bike. OK it was via its leisure and lifestyle arm Electra, but this is still a company that has always been very much attached to ‘bike-like’ bikes and e-bikes in more classic and established styles. That’s why it’s perhaps a little surprising to see it launch a model clearly following the trail blazed by the likes of Super 73 and their moped-style e-bikes.

We’ve already done a full review on another major US brand associated with the sportier end of the e-bike spectrum shifting focus in a similar way, in the form of Specialized’s Globe Haul ST and were impressed with the high quality twist that they put on their first ‘utility’ e-bike. It makes you wonder if more utility models are to come from Specialized and Trek / Electra and how they will bring their formidable R&D resources to bear on what is a relatively new area for both of them

iGo Core Elite 3HD Review, 2024

A well-equipped urban cruiser with dual cargo racks and a zippy, comfortable ride!

Riders who enjoy taking casual cruises will love the step-thru iGo Core Elite 3HD; this e-bike is simplicity done right! The testers and reviewers here at Electric Bike Report rode the bike for well over 100 miles and evaluated its ride feel, motor power, braking performance, and more; read all about the bike in this iGo Core Elite 3HD review!

The brand advertises the Core Elite 3HD as an urban/leisure bike, and we completely agree with this designation. Its upright positioning, dutch-style geometry, and cruiser-style handlebars provide comfort and great visibility. Additionally, the mid-weight frame and 700x47c tires grant it a high degree of agility.

We found that the bike had a strong weight-to-power ratio; its 500W rear hub motor packed plenty of punch for a Class 2 with a throttle and pedal-assisted limit of 20 miles per hour. The Core Elite 3HD’s gearing worked well in that range as well – its 8-speed cassette offered a wide cog range for easy pedaling both uphill and on the flat.

E-bikes like the Core Elite 3HD are common, but some of its urban/commuter-friendly features raised the bar! We were thrilled to see both a front and rear cargo rack included on the bike, along with full-length fenders with mud flaps, lights, and a chain guard.

E-Bike News: Priority’s Simpe e-Classic Plus, Decathlon Mid-drive Model with Integrated Stepless Gearing & Lots More!

Just how simple – or how sophisticated – do we want our e-bikes to be? That seems to be the question posed by this week’s news; e-bikes don’t come a lot simpler and lower maintenance than Priority’s new e-Classic Plus with its tried and tested formula of front hub motor and enclosed hub three speed drivetrain. By contrast, over in Europe, Decathlon has launched one of the highest tech and most groundbreaking e-bikes out there with stepless gearing integrated with the mid-drive itself. It will be interesting to see if the public put their hands in their pockets to pay for e-bikes with evermore connectivity and more complex and heavier gearing systems.

Himiway Rambler Review: a Look at the Recently Released Specs

Himiway has announced their new models for 2023 and there are a few surprises in there for this popular maker of fat-tire e-bikes. For the first time, Himiway has introduced an e-bike with tires narrower than 4 in. The Rambler is a city/commuter e-bike that comes in three different versions, two with a hub motor and another version with a mid-drive motor.

The Rambler ships ready for commutes; it includes front and rear lights, fenders and a rear rack. And because the Rambler is meant to stay on paved surfaces, Himiway gave it a different wheel size.

The Himiway brand was created by Mike Magaruh in 2017. Mike traveled around Asia familiarizing himself with e-bike manufacturers, and the component brands behind them. He then put his knowledge to use to create the Himiway brand which combines reputable componentry with a rugged outdoor design. With this in mind, we’ve looked forward with great anticipation for our chance to review the Himiway Cruiser. For this review Electric Bike Report tested both the step-thru and regular Cruiser models.

The Himiway Cruiser is a powerful all-terrain fat bike that specializes in trudging through snow, sand, and most any other surface while also destroying hill climbs. Priced right around $1,500, we think the Himiway Cruiser and Step-thru offer a lot of value – just be prepared and know that you are getting a powerful e-bike that takes off quickly and is super fast, so hold on tight!

If you are looking for a good-priced, powerful e-bike that’s able to ride on a wide range of terrain, then the Himiway Cruiser is a great option to look at. Especially thanks to the two different frame options to choose from.

10 Ideas for Modding Your E-Bike

The ideal e-bike is the one that fits a rider’s needs. Simple enough, huh? But riders’ needs can vary just as much as people vary. An e-bike must fulfill its function in two different ways. The first priority is rider comfort. Being able to pedal an e-bike comfortably is one of the big factors in just how much someone will ride their e-bike.

Himiway Big Dog E-Bike Review

Every Himiway bike like the Big Dog we’ve reviewed has a theme; many of the direct-to-consumer e-bike brands produce a stable of models that run the gamut from cruisers to commuters to all-terrain models and more. In some cases, the approach has seemed a bit like spaghetti-at-the-wall. And in this environment, it’s not that hard to find something that will stick. Himiway Electric Bikes has gone in a different direction. They have a definite design philosophy.

Looking across Himiway’s line, three recurring themes emerge: Big tires, big motors, and big batteries. Every bike in their lineup, including the Big Dog, shares these priorities, and yet each model is noticeably different from the others. In our Himiway Big Dog review we will look at what separates it from the other Himiway models and how this cargo e-bike stacks up among the other e-bikes we review.

The Himiway Big Dog earns its stripes as a cargo bike thanks to its payload capacity of 400 lbs. To handle all this weight, the Big Dog is built with oversized aluminum tubing, a heavy-duty rack and ultra-strong, cast aluminum wheels.

With a 750W brushless hub motor and a 960Wh Samsung/LG battery, this is one e-bike with the power necessary to haul a full load. It’s built with a 7-speed drivetrain, disc brakes, front and rear lights, as well as fenders, this is a full-featured e-bike that can handle a trip to Home Depot.

Himiway Rhino Review: a Look at the Recently Released Specs

E-bike maker Himiway is known for its fat-tire e-bikes. Among their new models for 2023 is an approach to range anxiety that’s new to us. The Himiway Rhino is a dual-battery fat-tire e-bike. That is, it comes with two batteries as standard equipment, rather than an option.

The Himiway Rhino isn’t the first e-bike to be sold with dual batteries, but what does make it different is that both batteries are integrated into the frame, one in the down tube and the other in the top tube. Range anxiety won’t have a chance to rear its head with the Himiway Rhino. Himiway’s announcement for the Rhino says that it will offer riders up to 100 mi. on a single charge.

Himiway’s claim that the Rhino will cover 100 mi. on a single charge is impressive on its own, but it becomes far more impressive considering how powerful the motor is. Himiway built the Rhino with a 1000W motor. Each battery carries a 720Wh capacity, for a total charge of 1440Wh.

According to Himiway, the number one issue e-bike buyers worry about is range. The Rhino is meant to banish concerns about where a rider can go.
