Himiway C5 Review | Dirt Bike Double-Take

Impressively cool looks, off-road capable, and smile-inducing fun for days!

Moto-style e-bikes always bring a spark of excitement to our testing routine. After all, we’ve reviewed plenty of fat tire cruisers, mountain bikes, and even trikes. So, when a model with a distinct dirt bike vibe arrives, it’s a welcome change of pace.

In this Himiway C5 Ultra review, we’ll be looking at Himiway’s latest entry – a modern twist on the classic dirt bike look. Its chunky front suspension fork, BMX-style handlebars, and long saddle instantly caught our attention. The C5 Ultra even sports a fresh set of tires – a collaboration between Himiway and Kenda, dubbed the ‘Himiway X Kenda’ K5 Off-road. These certainly look the part and offer a comfortable ride on and off pavement.

However, while we appreciate the C5’s aesthetics and most of its ride qualities, Himiway’s choice of a torque sensor raises some questions. This sensor might not be the best fit for a bike that encourages throttle-focused riding and shorter leg-extension.

Of course, our opinions are just that – opinions. To back them up, we need hard data. Does the Himiway C5 Ultra deliver on its promise of off-road thrills, or is it just a pretty face? We subjected the C5 to rigorous testing, focusing on speed, braking, range, and especially its off-road capabilities. Mokwheel Slate Review | Can A New-Comer To Folders Carve Out A Spot?

Super long range, great looks and folds up easy!

At first glance, I was impressed by the Mokwheel Slate. It has modern design colors, skin-side 20×3” tires and frame integrated turn signals. But, then I took a look at the specs and immediately thought it might underperform due to the smaller 500W motor.

Boy, was I wrong.

The motor has SERIOUS kick when you hit throttle, but it tested out to be surprisingly efficient. On our range test, the Mokwheel Slate got a result that placed it in 11th place across the hundreds of e-bikes we’ve range tested. So, with that surprise to kick things off in our testing, I was pumped to see what else the Mokwheel Slate had in store for us.

Mokwheel also included a full color HD display, a nice departure from clunky, duo-tone displays of the past. However, the display is a slim, compact design that can be quickly detached and placed into your pocket or bag, effectively disabling the bikes power. Little thoughtful features like that just add to our piece of mind when it comes to e-bike ownership.

It’s not without flaws. The included torque sensor isn’t the most refined I’ve pedalled, and while it folds down just fine there are ways they could make the processs more practical.

But good looks, solid performance and unique features, we’re off to a pretty good start. So, let’s jump into all the details and testing results we got in this Mokwheel Slate review.

SixThreeZero Rickshaw Review | Not Your Average E-Trike

A dedicated multi-passenger trike with some neat application potential, but there’s room for improvement for it to thrive in its niche.

The e-trike market offers plenty of options these days, but most designs feel a bit predictable. It turns out the e-trike market can still hit you with something new though.

One quick glance at the SixThreeZero Rickshaw and you can’t help but immediately notice the large bench seat in the rear for passengers. This immediately sets it apart visually, promising a unique riding experience that turned heads and sparked questions during my test rides.

Clearly, this Sixthreezero Rickshaw review will be venturing beyond the typical e-bike you may be used to, and exploring something fresh and potentially exciting.

The concept of carrying passengers on bikes isn’t new – tandem bicycles and child seats have long been part of the cycling world. But the Rickshaw attempts to meet the same goal with a different twist. Its permanent, spacious passenger platform isn’t just an add-on; it’s a core design element.

This opens up possibilities that standard e-bikes rarely consider: think multiple children enjoying a leisurely ride together, or a beloved pet joining the adventure without the awkwardness of a carrier. Families with members who have special needs can finally experience the joy of cycling as a unit. The included lap belt provides peace of mind, especially for those with extra energy to burn.

The Rickshaw’s capabilities extend beyond leisurely rides. Its massive 500 lb payload capacity turns this e-trike into a true workhorse. For those with an entrepreneurial spirit, it’s the perfect foundation for a low-cost pedicab business, offering a unique service without the hefty investment of a traditional pedicab. However, you’ll want to check out our speed tests, we had some issues with the Rickshaw’s top speed – some safety measures could be implemented for peace of mind.

The Rickshaw hints at a whole world of untapped potential, blurring the lines between personal transport, family fun, and even commercial use. On the other hand, we did find a few areas where the Rickshaw could improve and really dial-in this unique e-trike: namely better braking and making the ride less rattly in general.

All in all, the Sixthreezero Rickshaw isn’t just another e-bike – it’s a reminder of the possibilities that emerge when innovation meets real-world needs.

Retrospec Valen Rev+ E-Bike Review

A fresh take on a classic moto aesthetic, speed to match, and the range to go from across campus to across town!

The Retrospec Valen Rev+ is an absolute blast, earning a thumbs-up from everyone in our office who hopped on for a ride. This moto-inspired e-bike from Retrospec has a unique blend of style, practicality, and a whole lot of fun.

Born in 2009 as a budget-friendly bike brand for college students, Retrospec has since grown into a diverse outdoor gear company. Yet, they still retain that core focus on accessibility and enjoyment that made their original bikes a hit.

First things first, moto bikes have a reputation for having quick acceleration to zip around town or across campus and here the Valen Rev+ did not disappoint. The 750W motor paired to its cadence sensor activation made this motor stand out for sharp, punchy accelerations that consistently left smiles on our faces.

We found the Valen Rev+ extremely comfortable to ride thanks to its saddle and 20×4″ tires; it isn’t built for long-distance touring. As is common with moto- or moped-style e-bikes, its design is likely to limit comfortable pedaling for taller riders. It did, however, excel at zipping around town with its powerful motor and cool, eye-catching retro-inspired design.

Another nod to Retrospec goes to the bike’s suspension. While it does not have full suspension, the Valen Rev+ has a double crowned front fork with 100mm of travel; we found it to do a good job of eating up road imperfections along our route and even light off-roading.

Priced at just $1699, with a 28 mph top speed and 720Wh battery, we were intrigued by the Valen Rev+’s potential. After extensive testing, we’ve gathered several hours of ride time and loads of data to share. E-trikes are one of those things that people don’t think they need….until they do. Life has a funny way of sneaking up on all of us like that. The electric bike world has noticed too, dedicating the last few years to bridging the gap between e-bikes and accessible mobility. They’re specifically catering to seniors and individuals who may have mobility challenges.

After all, e-trikes just make sense. Hauling supplies, even taking the dog along – e-trikes with their baskets and stability make tackling those tasks a whole lot easier. They also offer advantages like easy mounting and dismounting, and of course, that reassuring stability of a 3-wheel design. Practical touches, such as large cargo baskets, sweeten the deal for those seeking a little extra help in everyday life.

The EVRY Journey Tricycle is going to be best for specific use cases. Think getting about the local neighborhood and enjoying fresh air a bit more if mobility issues have kept you mostly home-bound now. The motor is gentle and modest making it easy to ride in a straight line, and the sizing and geometry will be gentle on riders (especially taller ones). Certain parts of the design like the larger-than-most 26″ tires mean it won’t be as easy to turn at speed or when hauling heavier payloads in the back, and the v-brakes are meant for lighter-duty usage as well – something for stopping a trike like this at under 10 miles per hour.

The EVRY Journey isn’t as general-purpose as perhaps the Easy Transit 750W we reviewed, but it doesn’t have to be either. If you’re wanting to see the neighborhood and stretch your legs some, that’s maybe the trike’s sweet spot.

Retrospec Beaumont Rev 2 Review

Classic good looks, super-comfy cruising, and packed with value.

In a time where everything seems expensive, we can’t state enough how refreshing it is to see a brand introduce a bike that checks most boxes for most riders, and does it all for an MSRP of $999. So, when the crew over at Retrospec sent us their new Beaumont Rev 2, we were pumped to hit the road and see what it could do. In this Retrospec Beaumont Rev 2 review, we’re going to answer the age-old question about “budget” e-bikes: Can you have your cake and eat it too, even with today’s rising e-bike price tags?

Spoiler alert, we think you can.

Right off the bat, this bike is comfortable! We spend a lot of time on bikes here at Electric Bike Report, and comfort (or lack thereof) becomes quickly apparent to us once we hit the paths. In my testing this week, I spent quite a bit of time on the Beaumont Rev 2, and from my first mile, this bike kept me cruising with comfort. Retrospec’s choice for Compass 27.5”x2.4” city tires and cushioned wide leather seat were spot on, as they teamed up to deliver a smooth ride that I found myself not wanting to get off of.

But, what good is comfort (and price) if the bike doesn’t look good? I mean, that’s half the battle these days, a bike just needs to look good. Well, the folks at Retrospec really went big by offering six colors to pick from with the Beaumont Rev 2. So, no matter what your style is, you can likely find a color from the lineup that compliments your taste.

Now, with all my flattery out of the way, it’s time to get into the testing data we got with the Beaumont Rev 2. So, is it all pretty paint and price tags? Or, does this bike really deliver in the areas you need it most, things like range, speed, braking and ride quality? Well, let’s get nerdy and find out.

ADO Air 28 Review 2024

A new sleek design for a cruiser with the everyday practicality perks of a commuter

What would happen if a Dutch Cruiser and a City Commuter bike had a baby? Well, you would get the ADO Air 28.

In this ADO Air 28 review, we will highlight how the ADO Air 28 successfully blends design elements from Dutch-style cruisers and practical commuter bikes. Its comfortable, upright riding position, swept-back handlebar, and step-through frame nod towards cruiser bikes, while its LED headlight, front and rear fenders, and suspension fork are clear signs of its commuter DNA.

ADO takes a unique approach to design by integrating the battery into the seat post for a streamlined look. This makes for easier battery removal and a more balanced feel when maneuvering the bike. However, we found it does carry a small tradeoff for comfort that we will get into later.

The Gates Carbon Belt drive is a standout feature, offering quiet operation, minimal maintenance needs, and smooth power transfer. With its appropriately geared single speed drivetrain, the Air 28 is enjoyable to ride even without electrical assistance if needed.

Weight is often a concern with e-bikes, but the ADO Air 28 strikes a good balance. Weighing 43 lbs (without the battery) and 50 lbs (with it), this e-bike is manageable for those who need to frequently lift it or store it in smaller spaces. SixThreeZero EVRYJourney 500W Review

E-bikes often cater to a male-focused or more specifically these days, a gender-neutral audience, so it’s refreshing to encounter a brand that prioritizes a female-first perspective.
In this SixThreeZero EVRYjourney 500W review, let’s explore how this cruiser embraces simplicity without compromising on the joy of riding.

Right off the bat, we really like how the EVRYjourney 500W comes in several different color options, including: Mint Green, Cream, Navy, and Teal. At this price point, we love how riders can add a touch of personal flair through their choice of colors. That’s not something we see with every bike brand.

The EVRYjourney is equipped with a 500W rear hub motor, engaged through a cadence sensor, has mechanical disc brakes and a rear cargo rack capable of supporting up to 55 lbs.

The bike’s step-through frame at 21 inches is particularly accommodating for shorter riders, while allowing for fine tuning your ride comfort through an adjustable handlebar stem and seat post. The upright riding position was comfortable, as you would expect from a cruiser e-bike. And we were surprised with how well the 26″ x 1.95″ tires gripped, even in rainy conditions.

Overall, we were impressed with several aspects of the EVRYjourney 500W. The motor was powerful and zippy (see our hill test below), it’s lightweight and pedals well, and has a nice design. However, there are a few areas that we think sixthreezero needs to improve on, namely the brakes (see our brake test results section below for details).

Yadea Trooper 01 Review, 2024

Cool, Fast, and a Quick Hill-Climber – Yadea Makes a Solid First Impression

Here at Electric Bike Report, we love testing new e-bikes….No, really, we do.

This week, the spotlight shines on the Yadea Trooper 01 review, a moped-styled e-bike from a younger brand now being offered in the U.S. e-Bike market. So, is this just another low-effort e-bike piggy-backing on the success of the Super73? Or, is it a real player in the big leagues of e-bikes? Let’s sort that out now.

The Yadea Trooper 01 is powered by a 750W motor and 80nM of torque. Its classic design merges the nostalgia of traditional cafe motor bikes with the efficiency of modern battery technology, creating what we think is a classically cool moto-inspired e-bike that could appeal to new and old-school riders alike.

While we did find some impressive testing results in over 100 miles of testing, the Yadea Trooper does have areas where it could improve. As I took it for a spin, the Yadea Trooper 01 proved to be more than just a mode of transportation; it was a smile-inducing speedster with a special emphasis in hill climbing.

However, when it comes to the slower, more relaxed pace – akin to a long-distance runner maintaining endurance and consistency – the bike could use some refinement. This aspect of performance at casual speeds isn’t quite as polished. Yet, considering that this is an early venture for a newer brand in the moped-style e-bike category, the Trooper 01 stands as a strong initial entry, showing great promise for future developments.
