Bikes have been present to varying degrees throughout John’s life; as a teenager, he spent much of his free time on a Diamondback BMX, and during/following the pandemic, a secondhand Specialized trail bike offered a way to blow off steam. Writing has been similarly ubiquitous; a natural skill with the written word developed through formal education into a source of pride and passion. Evelo Omega Review | The Last Cruiser You’ll Ever Need?

A highly capable, upgradable, and comfortable cruiser with automatic shifting and a low-maintenance experience.

The average cruiser-style e-bike is great for leisurely rides, as most feature approachable power levels, relaxed handling, a comfortable riding position, and an overall chill vibe. Whether used for casual rides to the park, the boardwalk, or around the neighborhood, bikes in this category encourage riders to appreciate the journey, not just the destination.

For riders who enjoy the finer things in life, it doesn’t get much better than the Evelo Omega—at least, that’s what the brand’s marketing materials suggest.

Their supporting evidence?

This cruiser-style e-bike hosts a hefty helping of high-end tech, with the primary focus being the Omega’s Enviolo Automatiq transmission. This automatic shifting system adapts to the rider’s environment and level of effort by adjusting the amount of resistance on the pedals without manual gear changes; just hop in the saddle, turn on the bike, and ride!

Additionally, the Omega features a powerful (but not scary) 600W Bafang mid-drive motor, which delivers helpful pedal assistance. Aging riders of analog bikes will appreciate its natural feel along with the oomph needed to flatten hills and relieve strained knees.

The motor is also paired with a clean, low-maintenance Gates Carbon belt drive, ensuring smooth pedaling and thousands of miles between visits to the mechanic.

Finally, while the standard model puts a lot on the table, Evelo offers a handful of comfort and performance upgrades for those seeking an even more premium experience. Customers can choose to add a suspension stem and/or seatpost to smooth the ride, while an optional dual-battery setup extends the Omega’s advertised range from 60 to 100 miles.

There were many stories to cover in this week’s e-bike news, from upcoming releases to updates on the government shutdown and a folding e-bike manufacturer bringing assembly to the US.

The iconic moto-style e-bike brand Super73 recently teased a new model via Instagram. We have some ideas on what it might be, but the company’s official reveal is set for later in October.

Despite the temporary shutdown of the US Government, many national parks and bicycle/e-bike-friendly areas on BLM land should remain open to the public. We share details below.

Blaupunkt is planning a 2026 move from its current production factory in Paraguay to a new location in North Carolina. This relocation would make it one of the largest companies to assemble e-bikes domestically.

Velotric Triker Review | A Truly Tricked-Out Mid-Tier Trike

This sharp-looking three-wheeler boasts a big battery, a powerful motor, a boatload of features and customization options, and excellent real-world performance.

In recent years, we’ve seen a growing number of e-bike brands competing for attention in the entry-level electric tricycle market. These budget-tier models are often functional, accessible, and appealing to new riders, but by their very nature, their specs and performance are limited by their price.

With the Triker, a polished and relatively robust mid-tier e-trike, Velotric opted to appeal to those who want more than just the basics.

The difference is visually obvious, with the three-wheeler’s sleek lines and glossy, automotive-quality paint job. But what’s under the proverbial hood is more important; the Triker’s sturdy frame and 750W motor give it the ability to move up to an advertised 500-lb total payload. A high-capacity 804-Wh battery offers an advertised range of up to 60 miles.

Like other Velotric models, the Triker also boasts an uncommonly high degree of customization!

For example, the brand’s SensorSwap technology offers a choice between the natural, active feel of a torque sensor or the relaxed, low-effort experience of a cadence sensor. The two modes each have their place; riders heading out for exercise may choose the former, while switching to the latter when carrying a load of groceries or tackling a hilly path.

Additionally, the Triker features two ride settings with different speed limits. A user-friendly Beginner Mode limits its top speed to a safe and controlled 8 mph across three pedal assist levels, while the Standard Mode offers adjustable speeds up to 20 mph over five settings for those who are comfortable with the trike’s handling and operation.

Trek’s New Checkpoint+ E-Gravel Bike, First Look at Rivian’s ALSO E-Bike, and Safer RLS Helmet Tech | TWR Ep 50

This week’s e-bike news is all about exactly that—things that are new! We have a new e-bike release from Trek, a sneak peek at Rivian’s upcoming e-bike, and new helmet technology that is proving safer than MIPS.

Trek’s new model, an electric gravel bike called the Checkpoint+ SL, is available in three spec tiers. All of them are equipped with TQ’s 350W peak HPR60 mid-drive and are advertised to weigh between 30 and 31 lbs.

Rivian’s e-bike brand ALSO released a teaser video for its upcoming e-bike. While the bike was blurred out in most of the video, a few frames were found to contain relatively clear images that allow for some speculation on its features.

RLS is a new helmet technology proving more effective than MIPS in reducing rotational forces that can cause traumatic brain injuries. Canyon is among the first manufacturers debuting the technology, with its Deflectr helmet earning the highest rating from Virginia Tech’s helmet lab to date.

Retrospec Roo Rev XL Review | This Wallaby Wants to Work

A straightforward, accessible, and well-equipped cargo e-bike that handles more like a short-tail than a typical long-rack hauler.

Considering that cargo e-bikes like the Retrospec Roo Rev XL are the workhorses of the e-bike world, it’s essential for them to feel comfortable and respond predictably to their riders input. After all, if you’re seeking a bike for errand running or family outings, you’re likely going to be spending a lot of time in the saddle.

With its capable and responsive 750W motor and torque sensor, an accommodating frame design, and wide, sturdy handlebars, the Roo Rev XL is off to a great start. In our first test rides, we noticed the bike’s responsive power delivery, its ease of mounting and dismounting, and its confident, predictable handling.

The bike’s 400-lb payload capacity, which includes up to 119 lbs on its high-vis orange cargo rack, adds to its utility. When combined with optional accessories, such as storage baskets, child seats, or an optional trailer, the Roo Rev XL can be made suitable for work or play.

A few minor rough spots aside, our first impression of the bike was par for course when it comes to Retrospec; in our experience, the brand delivers straightforward and solidly-put-together e-bikes with a focus on value.

Gazelle released three models for its fall lineup: the Easyflow C7, the Arroyo C5 Elite, and the Arroyo C380 Elite. See below for detailed specs and availability info on all three bikes.

The Portland, Oregon-based frame material supplier Firsthand Framebuilding is planning to offer framebuilding classes at their new headquarters in 2026.

Scott Silence eRIDE EVO Speed Review | Form & Function Fused

A premium-tier commuter that feels like a luxury sedan. It boasts a highly comfortable ride, responsive pedal assist, a fully-loaded spec sheet, and an eye-catching design.

If commuter e-bikes can be likened to trusty sedans, then the Scott Silence eRIDE EVO Speed is a luxury model like an Infiniti or Audi.

In addition to its sleek and precisely crafted appearance, the bike is decked to the nines with features and integrated technology intended to make the daily ride to and from the office as smooth and enjoyable as possible.

The drive system is a 250W Bosch Performance Line Speed mid-drive, delivering smooth and natural-feeling pedal assist up to 28 mph. That’s fast enough to keep up with traffic on crowded city streets, but it doesn’t feel overpowered; the motor amplifies the work you put in so that you still feel like you’re riding a “regular” bike instead of cruising on a motorcycle.

The Silence also pairs with the Bosch eBike Connect app, which makes it easy to track ride data, meet your fitness goals, and get to your destination in the manner you most prefer. When using the app for navigation, users are given three options for the fastest route, the shortest route, and the scenic route—the selected option syncs with the bike’s display.

Scott didn’t skimp when they loaded the bike with commuter essentials. The Silence eRIDE EVO sports premium lights (with high/low beams and brake lights), a low-maintenance belt drive with a guard, a cafe wheel lock, and even a stylized kickstand that essentially disappears into the chainstay when folded. As you might expect, it also features fenders and a cargo rack with a 44-lb carrying capacity.

We were highly impressed with the Silence on paper, and we liked the bike even more after our first test ride. As always, however, we didn’t limit ourselves to first impressions. We tested the bike’s speed, range, braking performance, and climbing power in a series of standardized tests.

MAHLE Updates X20 Motor, Chinese Bike Imports Spike, NYPD May Confiscate Batteries | TWR Ep 48

This week in e-bike news, a variety of topics caught our attention, ranging from politics to tech and new e-bike releases.

New data from the US Department of Commerce shows the impact of tariffs the Trump administration threatened but ultimately delayed. July’s numbers showed a 128% increase in Chinese bike imports when compared to June.

The Spanish motor manufacturer MAHLE added more power to its flagship drive system. The X20 motor now peaks 10% higher and produces 18% more torque than previous versions.

Finally, a proposed law may allow the NYPD to confiscate some e-bike batteries.

In e-bike-related news this week, we have a slew of new releases to cover, along with an update to the tariff situation.

In the tariff space, a federal appeals court ruled that the Trump administration’s sweeping reciprocal tariffs were unlawful, but the administration plans to seek an expedited ruling following another appeal to the Supreme Court. Could this cause e-bike prices to fall?

In the UK, Raleigh and Sharp (the electronics brand) are debuting new e-bike models. Raleigh’s lightweight commuter offers a premium mid-drive experience without the high cost. Sharp dropped an entire catalogue of new models covering urban modes, folding bikes, cruisers, and even a utility e-bike.

In this week’s e-bike news, more changes to the US government’s tariff policies are once again likely to increase prices. More specifically, the introduction of a new steel tariff has brands questioning how much of their costs will be taxed. The update has also caused Riese & Müller, a manufacturer of premium e-bikes, to pause shipments of new products to the US.

Additionally, two brands have released new electric tricycles. Industry giant Lectric is now accepting orders for the upgraded 750W model of the XP Trike2. Puckipuppy’s new e-trike, called the Rottweiler, offers many similar features, plus one unexpected addition—a dual-shock rear suspension!
