  1. Ebikes might help the situation in regards to climate change, but not “landfill change.”

    Many of the new motors that come out aren’t downward compatible. For example, if I like the specs on the Yamaha PW-X3 motor I wouldn’t be able to buy one as a drop-in replacement for the PW-X2. When all the bikes with PW-X2 motors need replacement a few years from now, it’s less likely to happen.

    For most people, they will need to buy a new ebike. Too bad if you love your frame and all it’s nifty components there’s no drop-in replacement from within the company’s product line, let alone using a different company’s motor.

    I’m not sure if motor housings need to be ISO standardized or something.
