Tenways Wayfarer First Look | Traveling in Comfort, Power, and Tech
Tenways’ latest cruiser-style e-bike blends comfort with muscle, pairing relaxed ergonomics and practical features with a surprising dose of power and modern tech.
The Wayfarer is Tenways’ most powerful hub-drive model to date, featuring a 500W nominal motor with 750W peak output and 65Nm of torque. It also debuts an intelligent dual-sensor system that automatically switches between torque and cadence sensing for a smoother, more natural ride. Tech fans will appreciate the Apple Find My integration, companion app connectivity, and versatile tires that handle both pavement and light trails. Comfort gets its due as well, thanks to the included suspension fork and seatpost.
With its mix of comfort, power, and smarts, the Wayfarer stands out in an increasingly crowded cruiser category. One thing’s certain: this isn’t your grandma’s step-thru (though she might want one too).
The Wayfarer’s Main Features
Tenways has gone nearly 50/50 between hub and mid-drive systems across its lineup. Up to this point, most of its hub-drive models featured modest 350W Mivice motors on lightweight city bikes. The new Wayfarer steps things up with a 500W Bafang rear hub motor that peaks at 750W and delivers 65Nm of torque. That’s a solid upgrade that should give riders a noticeable boost in power.
It’s also Class 3 capable, meaning riders can reach speeds up to 28 mph with pedal assist or 20 mph using the throttle. Powering the system is a 720Wh downtube battery (48V, 15Ah) with LG cells. Tenways claims up to 85 miles of range on pedal assist and around 35 miles using throttle only. The Wayfarer is also said to be UL-compliant, which is an important safety certification many riders now look for.
Comfort is another major draw here. While Tenways hasn’t yet released full fork specs, the bike comes equipped with both a suspension fork and a suspension seatpost. Pair that with a wide saddle and an adjustable stem, and you’ve got a cruiser that should be easy to dial in for comfort. The single-frame design is listed as fitting riders from 5’4” to 6’3” with a maximum payload of 265 lbs.
Rounding out the package are a handful of practical and thoughtful touches; some features are commuter staples, others just welcome quality-of-life additions:
- 4.3” LCD display with Type-C charging port and password protection
- MIK-compatible rear rack
- Hydraulic disc brakes
- Integrated turn signals and headlight
- IPX6 weather resistance
With a debut MSRP of $2,199, the Wayfarer’s pricing lands right in line with similar comfort cruisers—especially considering the bump in performance and features we’re seeing across the industry under current tariff conditions.
Questions for Full Testing
Overall, the outlook for the Wayfarer looks promising. It’s a sharp-looking bike backed by Tenways’ solid reputation for reliable, well-built e-bikes, and the added power makes for a natural next step in their evolving lineup.
While the big picture looks good, there are still a few details we’re eager to dig into once we get the bike in for testing:
- What type of suspension fork is included, and how much travel does it offer?
- The hydraulic brakes are a welcome sight, but are they two-piston or four, and what rotor sizes are used?
- Will the companion app allow for tuning and customization, or is it limited to ride tracking and diagnostics?
We expect to have our test bike arriving soon, and we’ll be answering these questions—and plenty more—once we’ve had time to put it through our full review process.
