Okay, that may sound like an infomercial pitch, but seriously, the best storage system is one that makes intuitive sense to you. With adjustable compartments tailored to your gear, you’re more likely to stay organized and less likely to misplace your essentials.
What stood out the most during my time with the Kitworks Gear Box and Gear Tote was their sheer versatility. You can configure the storage with bags, straps, pouches, and movable dividers, ensuring your essentials don’t end up in one big jumbled sack. Everything has its place.
The Gear Box is undeniably heavy-duty. It’s made from high-grade materials and supports up to 250 lbs (confirmed by yours truly at 235 lbs). Despite its strength, it can collapse flat when not in use, saving valuable storage space. The exterior is water-resistant and UV-tough, making it a reliable companion in the elements.
The Gear Tote is a lightweight and more portable option. It’s more flexible and open at the top, but easier to see at a glance and grab things quickly.
Any downsides? As with most premium products, the upfront cost is higher, but it feels justified. You’re paying for long-term durability and a system that can evolve and adapt to your changing needs. If you’re of the “buy once, cry once” mindset, this could be a smart investment.

The walls velcro securely into place. Easy enough to take down when needed, but also great at staying put.
The zipper bags are another way to stay organized, or further weatherproof electronics.
Kitworks Gear Box and Tote Review – Accessories and Modularity
With attachment points both inside and out, the Gear Box and Tote offer more combinations than you can shake a stick at. Kitworks has crafted a range of add-ons like gear cubes, utility pouches, zippered mesh bags, designed to hold everything from delicate items to gritty tools.
The 75L Gear Box and 55L Tote we tested (a 35L version of the Tote is also available) more than accommodate all my mountain biking gear with room to spare. Helmet, shoes, gloves, pumps, sealant, multitools, a full burrito toolkit, snacks, sunscreen—you name it, it fit.
I appreciated how no space was wasted. Even the lid interior of the Gear Box features attachment points; I added a mesh pocket to stash keys and chapstick, though you could easily add more.
Labeling is another nice touch. You can use Kitworks’ clean patch system with labels such as Cycle, Tools, Camping, Kitchen, and more, or create your own with the blank slate patches they sell and a Sharpie for clear identification.
After using both, I prefer the Tote for everyday riding gear and the Gear Box for heavier-duty jobs, such as storing tools or camera gear. The ability to configure each container to my exact needs prevents items from rattling around or getting buried. Please note that additional accessories, such as dividers and pouches, are sold separately and will increase the total cost.

Kitworks Gear Box and Tote Review – Handling The Elements
The tote is better suited for hauling items that you’ll transport frequently, while the box is better for fixed-location storage or long-term storage.
The Gear Box’s TPU-laminated exterior shrugged off everything from rain and snow to an unsealed sports drink. It’s easy to wipe clean and resists scratches and punctures well. The Tote, with its open top, isn’t quite as element-proof, but still does fine in the back of a trunk or garage.
Again, that weight capacity is no joke; I sat on the Gear Box, fully loaded, without issue. Yet it breaks down when empty to a much slimmer profile, ideal for tucking away when not in use.
It also seemed to handle the weight inside well. The straps didn’t make me nervous about fraying when I was hauling upwards of 30 lbs in the bags at one point.

Kitworks Gear Box and Tote Review – Built to Last
The storage options fixed to the underside of the lid are great for further organization and mkaign sure everything has a proper place.
Since my mountain biking shoes frequently look like this after a ride, I loved the liner to keep it sectioned off from the other items so they wouldn’t get dirty.
The tote also comes with pockets inside.
You can buy labels, or just grab a sharpie and fill in the blank one.
