Burley Coho XC Bike Trailer Review, 2024
One of the reasons we at Electric Bike Report wanted to review the Burley Coho XC trailer was that it will work with almost every kind of e-bike on the market. Whether someone plans to use it for deliveries, camping, hunting, fishing or general errands, this is a trailer that will allow an e-bike to expand its capabilities.
There are a number of features that made the Burley Coho XC trailer a standout among trailers. Let’s take a deeper look.
- 70-lb. carrying capacity makes it more capable than most trailers
- Coil-spring shock cushions the contents for off-road use
- With just one wheel and a width of 17 in. it can traverse trails
- Dual-leg, motorcycle-style kickstand makes loading and unloading easy
- Works with nutted axles, quick release axles and thru-axles
- Folds to half its original size, making it easy to transport and store
- 70 liters of storage space
- A 24 or even 20-in. wheel would roll over bumps more easily
The Burley Coho XC can carry up to 70 pounds, and it offers up to 70 liters of carrying space. (Riders looking for even more carrying capacity should check out our review of the Burley Nomad trailer. Think of it this way: The Coho XC could carry a bag of potting soil or the big bag of dog food. You could probably carry a set of golf clubs to the course—and you wouldn’t need a golf cart. It is also well-suited to hunters and anglers who need a trailer they can take on dirt roads and trails. At just 17-in. wide and rolling on a single, 16-in. wheel, it follows behind an e-bike, sitting comfortably in its shadow. Burley also included a fender for the wheel so that riding through mud or splashes won’t soak the trailer’s contents.
Buyers need to pick the appropriate axle kit for their e-bike. That’s because it offers a thru-axle adapter, a 5mm quick-release-skewer adapter and a nutted axle adapter. That Burley offers adapters for nutted axles makes the Coho XC more versatile than most trailers; some only work with quick-release axles and skewers. When you’re finished using it, a lever on the handle that you use to guide it into position releases the trailer from the e-bike.
Burley covers the Coho XC with a three-year warranty. Our one notable criticism of this trailer is that it rolls on a 16-in. wheel. The smaller a wheel, the more difficulty it has rolling over obstacles; a larger wheel would result in a smoother ride.
The Burley Coho XC comes in at a bit less than $500 and considering the quality of the design, construction and handling, it provides terrific value.
