Established in China in 1999 as a manufacturer of non-electric bicycles, AIMA has grown to become one of the world’s largest makers of e-bikes, electric scooters, and other electric micromobility devices. The company owns more than ten production facilities, and its products are available in over 50 countries at over 30,000 stores and retailers worldwide.
AIMA established itself in Europe and North America in 2021, growing a network of 500+ dealers. Unlike many other e-bike brands, its models are not available for direct-to-consumer (DTC) purchase. Instead, the company focuses exclusively on developing relationships with independent bike shops that provide knowledge, service, and community to their customers.
The brand produces only a small but growing number of e-bikes for the US market, with durability, safety, and quality being some of its highest priorities. Many of its products have earned recognition, with its Big Sur fat tire e-bike winning a Platinum Award at the 2025 Rome Design Awards and its Santa Monica cruiser garnering an Honorable Mention at the 2025 Paris DNA Design Awards.
AIMA also has a history of partnering with other well-established companies in the industry. The company’s e-bikes use motors developed in cooperation with Bafang. It has also partnered with the global tire manufacturer Chaoyang, and once held a strategic alliance with California-based e-bike brand Juiced.
We’ve been extremely impressed with the overall quality and performance of the AIMA e-bikes we’ve tested. The brand’s products have been comfortable, sturdy, well-specced, capable, and easy to operate; it’s easy to see why so many of our readers and viewers recommended the brand to us.
