Specialized Turbo Levo Comp Alloy Gen 4 Review

Specialized’s Turbo Levo Gen 4 is the kind of sequel that doesn’t just continue a legacy, it reasserts it.

The previous model was already a fan favorite, renowned for its balanced geometry, smooth power delivery, and a ride feel that struck the sweet spot for nearly everyone, making it an all-around excellent choice for an all-mountain bike. After a few weeks reviewing the Specialized Turbo Levo Gen 4, I can confidently say it raises the ceiling yet again, building on what worked, while adding impressive tech and capability in the process.

At the heart of the update is the new Specialized 3.1 motor which packs 666W of peak power and 101Nm of torque. That’s elite-tier power, but what makes it shine is how seamlessly that power blends into the ride. The brand’s “where super meets natural” slogan doesn’t feel like a stretch; it’s a rather fitting summary.

The bike moves well on its mullet setup, the frame’s geo is meaningfully adjustable, and it’s equipped for long, hard days with an 840Wh battery tucked into the chunky downtube (which also houses SWAT internal storage for tools, snacks, and gear). The suspension setup retains the familiar 150/160mm travel but adds a twist with the new GENIE shock system, which further refines rear shock performance with improved progression and less bottom-out.

There’s a lot going on here, but it all ties together. The Turbo Levo Gen 4 feels like Specialized’s answer to the question: Can one eMTB truly do a bit of everything for riders of any skill level? Its versatility, power, and dialed-in ride will be able to satiate a lot of different appetites.

Of course, there are tradeoffs. The alloy version has some heft, and the oversized downtube won’t win any minimalist design awards, but for what it offers, those are pretty easy to live with.

So, whether you’re brand new to eMTBs or a seasoned trail rider chasing a top-tier experience without jumping to a carbon frame price point, the Turbo Levo Gen 4 makes a compelling case. It’s confident, capable, and surprisingly accessible for a bike that feels this close to supernatural.

It’s not uncommon for e-bike brands to make updates to their bikes between new model releases. In most cases, these changes are small quality-of-life improvements, such as minor gearing changes, new color options, or tiny tweaks to the geometry.

Case in point: Velotric’s Nomad 1 Plus and Discover 1 Plus models—a fat tire e-bike and a hybrid commuter/cruiser, respectively—added adjustable stems, brighter headlights, and a basic speed adjustment feature.

The brand’s updated folding e-bike, the Fold 1 Plus, took a different approach.

Instead of a light refresh, the Fold 1 received a boatload of upgrades, bringing all the features of Velotric’s full-size models to its most portable bike. The Fold 1 Plus has a color display and a new control panel, updated programming, integrated turn signals, and a slightly more powerful motor.

It can also pair with the Velotric app, allowing users to customize nearly all aspects of the ride. Riders can adjust throttle and pedal assist speeds separately, select from three riding modes with varying power and sensitivity ranges, and even customize the brake light behavior. The bike also features Apple Find My™ technology to track its location.

Perhaps the most impactful upgrade from the original model is the addition of the SensorSwap feature, which offers riders the option between a classic, relaxed cadence-sensing mode and a new, more active torque-sensing mode. GoCycle Gets New Funding, MAHLE Debuts eMTB Mid-Drive, New Bill Eliminates Tariffs | TWR Ep 36

This was an exciting week in the world of e-bikes, with a variety of news stories and interactions with our audience to highlight.

Perhaps most notably, the premium folding e-bike company GoCycle, which recently sought an injection of capital through a crowdfunding campaign, has received new funding after a buy-in from the owner of a prominent North American e-bike manufacturer.

MAHLE, a Spanish producer of e-bike drive systems, has entered the eMTB space with a powerful mid-drive clearly intended to compete with some of the biggest-hitting motors already found on bikes. Additionally, the DTC company Canyon has established its first brick-and-mortar “Experience Center” in California.

Velotric Nomad 2X Review | Double the Squish, Double the Fun

This reimagined version of the Nomad 2 adds more power, better range, and a full air suspension for a cushier ride.

Nearly all fat-tire e-bikes have suspension forks to absorb impacts and smooth rough terrain, but without a rear shock, many bumps and rattles often still find their way to the rider. Outside of a handful of focused subcategories, such as speedy moto-style bikes or overpowered all-terrain monsters, full-suspension fat bikes are somewhat of a rarity.

Velotric aims to fill this niche with the Nomad 2X: a sportier, more powerful, and generally more off-road-capable version of its Nomad 2 fat tire e-bike.

The 2X has a more robust motor with a whopping 105 Nm of torque, a larger 802-Wh battery, and a full air suspension to complement its redesigned frame. Aside from those changes, the two bikes are largely the same, and the new version includes Velotric’s typical suite of impressive customization features.

Once paired with the Velotric app (or accessed in the display menu), riders can tune the feel of the ride through a variety of parameters. For example, the SensorSwap function allows users to switch between an active torque-sensing mode and a relaxed cadence-sensing mode depending on their preferences.

Additionally, there are three riding modes with a wide range of power levels for the pedal assist system (PAS). Velotric even allows granular control over the bike’s speeds, with the ability to set separate limits for the throttle and PAS anywhere between 12 and 28 mph.

In our experience, these features make Velotric’s e-bikes some of the most versatile rides on the market. With so many options to choose from, models like the Nomad 2X can appeal to riders of most ages, sizes, experience levels, etc.
