Like GIANT, Liv, and CADEX, Momentum is a subsidiary of the Giant Group, a global leader in bicycle and e-bike manufacturing. Unlike the other brands under this conglomerate, which specialize in performance bikes and components, Momentum is a lifestyle brand that makes products for everyday use and enjoyment in urban environments.
The fact that it’s not a performance-focused brand doesn’t mean that Momentum’s e-bikes are any less effective; the company’s products benefit from the larger group’s research and development, as well as its design and manufacturing experience.
After all, the Giant Group has been producing bikes for decades; it started as the Giant Manufacturing Company in 1972, where it manufactured frames for other brands, but expanded to create its own private GIANT label in 1981. The company’s first e-bike was released in 1997, which led to the founding of the Momentum brand in 2009.
In addition to boasting sleek, contemporary frames equipped with high-quality components, Momentum’s e-bikes employ batteries designed in partnership with Panasonic. The batteries use long-lasting cells and are built to be remarkably fire-resistant. The brand also pairs its batteries with higher-than-average-amperage chargers to reduce charging times—a feature we highly appreciate.
While our experience with Momentum is limited (we’ve tested two of its models at the time of writing), the company’s decades of experience have been apparent in its e-bikes. In addition to being visually appealing, they’ve felt comfortable, responsive, user-friendly, and appropriately equipped for their intended use. Riders seeking well-made products from a proven manufacturer will not be disappointed!
