VIDEO: Gas Prices on the Rise. Time for an Electric Bike!

Hmmmm.....Time for an electric bike?

Wow!  Gas prices are on the rise…..and quickly; they went up 10 cents during the time this video was created!

Check out this video from ABC News about rising gas prices, how people are reacting, and where your money goes when you buy gasoline.  Also note that some of these people feel that they are powerless when it comes to these rising prices.  Maybe they need to consider an electric bike 🙂

Here is something else to consider: the 10 cent rise in gas prices during the video is about the cost of [Read more…]

The E-Bike Lifestyle: Saving Money, Low Sweat, & Cheating?

This is a guest post from Peter Rosenfeld; not to be confused with me!  Peter Rosenfeld lives outside of Philadelphia and is starting his third year of riding a Bionx electric bicycle.

Why Do You Ride an E-Bike?

I get a lot of questions about why I ride a bicycle with electric assist and what are the costs involved.

The why WAS pretty easy. As a long-time bicycle commuter and recreational bicyclist, I hope to ride a bicycle well into my golden years. But about five years ago [Read more…]

Electric Bikes Make Sense for University Campuses!

Electric bikes make a lot of sense for the individual person getting to and from their job and running errands; not to mention just having fun 🙂

They also make a lot of sense for large institutions like universities and colleges, large and small business, airports, hospitals, national and state parks, etc.  Ebikes allow for a convenient way to get around campuses and towns while reducing emissions and in the end saving the organization money.

The following is a guest post from Nora Gildea, VP Marketing at Pietzo Electric Bikes about ebikes on some of the large university campuses.  Enjoy! [Read more…]

Video: The Benefits of Riding an Electric Bicycle

This is an older video, but the benefits they go over in the video summarize why electric bikes are a great alternative to driving a car!

There are a couple of things that I would like to point out in the video. This is an electric bike conversion kit that the Michael added to his existing bicycle. The kit might look a little “funky” because it is one of the older kits. Today’s conversion kits are a little cleaner.

He also states that he can go up to 35 mph. That speed is too high to be considered an electric bicycle in the US and other parts of the world. The speed limit in the U.S. and Canada is 20 mph and the speed limit in Europe and other parts of the world (with some exceptions) is 25 kmh or 15.5 mph.

Parking Problems? Not With an Electric Bike!

Don’t ya love circling the block for that perfect parking spot?  And then worrying about the parking meter running out when you are running errands downtown that are taking longer than expected.  Well the cool thing about an electric bike (and regular bike) is the ability to pull up and park as close as possible to where you are going.  Oh yeah, and it’s free to park your electric bike!

Parking a bicycle is so much easier than parking a car.  It is really nice to be able to pull up to where you are going and find the nearest bike rack or tree and lock your bike to it.  That’s it. Done 🙂

Parking a car on the other hand can be a frustrating experience.  Circling the block or parking lot for that perfect spot that is as close to the store you are going to is frustrating!  Finding that perfect spot is also time consuming.  When you consider [Read more…]
