Part 2 of the EVELO Delta X review will give you info on the ride characteristics, results from the range test, pros, cons, and overall thoughts on this eBike.
Alright, let’s take a closer look at the EVELO Delta X!
The EVELO Delta X is a commuter and adventure touring style eBike that is based on their original Delta eMountain bike platform. Here is the full review of the EVELO Delta eMTB.
The frame is constructed of hydroformed 6061 aluminum with the mid drive motor and lithium battery located low and center on the frame. EVELO states that the frame is designed to fit riders in height from 5′-6″ to 6′-2″.
Here is a closer look at the headtube area where the top tube and down tube connect. The hydroformed aluminum tubes have unique shapes that add strength and style to the Delta X. In this view you can also see how the down tube is sculpted around the battery. There is internal cable routing within the downtube for a cleaner look and cable protection.
Here is a look at the top tube to seat tube connection with a reinforcing tube creating additional structure and style. Beyond that you can see the rear rack strut attachment to the seat stay frame tube.
The 750 watt Bafang mid drive motor is built into the hydroformed aluminum frame with covers to give it a clean integrated look. The EVELO Delta X is a Class 2 electric bike per California law which is pedal assist and/or throttle up to 20 mph, 750 watts max.
The Delta X has 5 levels of pedal assist (cadence sensor system) in addition to a thumb throttle. More on that in a bit.
The other side of the motor shows the additional cover that blends the look of the motor in with the frame.
This is the 48V 11.6Ah lithium battery with Panasonic cells that is located on the downtube of the frame. The centered and low battery/motor location is ideal for bike handling in addition to a balanced feel when picking the bike up.
On the bottom right side of the battery is the charge level indicator and the charging port (behind the rubber cover). The battery can be charged on or off the bike.
The battery lock is on the top left side of the battery and it comes with 4 keys. Once the battery has been unlocked it slides to the right side of the frame for removal.
Here’s a look at the frame after the battery pack has been removed. When the battery has been removed the bike weighs 59.5 pounds which makes it a little easier to pick up and load onto a car rack. Total weight of the bike with the battery is 66 pounds.
The battery can be charged on or off the bike. The battery weights 6.5 pounds. The charger is about the size of a laptop charger and it takes 4 to 6 hours to charge an empty battery.
This is the SR Suntour XCM suspension fork that has 120mm of travel with a 15mm thru axle for solid lateral wheel stability. This fork uses a coil spring that can be adjusted with a preload dial on the left side of the fork to fit your riding weight and ride style.
The XCM fork has a lockout lever on the top right side of the fork. The lockout prevents the fork from moving so you get a more efficient ride when riding on smooth roads.
Here is a closer look at the Schwalbe Super Moto-X 27.5″ x 2.8″ tire. These are a balloon style tires that have a lot of air volume to give a suspension effect, especially when run at the lower tire pressure range. Schwalbe recommends 20-45 psi range for these tires.
These have an efficient road style tread pattern with channeling for dissipating water. They also work pretty well for moderate off road conditions with the larger tread patch on the ground at the lower pressures.
This is the front Tektro Auriga hydraulic disc brakes with 180 mm rotors. They have the solid and powerful feel typical of hydraulic brakes.
Here is a look at the left side of the handlebar with the Velo lock on grip, front Tektro Auriga hydraulic brake lever, thumb throttle, and control pad.
The thumb throttle can be used whenever you want an extra boost. It can override any of the pedal assist levels so you can cruise along without pedaling if you want. It can also be helpful for getting started on a hill or accelerating through a busy intersection.
Both front and rear Tektro Auriga hydraulic brake levers have cut-off switches to stop the motor assist when the brake lever is engaged. In addition, the brake lever reach can be adjusted to fit your hand.
Here is a closer look at the thumb throttle and control pad. The thumb throttle can be used with pedal assist for a boost in the lower assist levels or it can be used without pedaling if you prefer. The + and – buttons on the control pad adjust the 5 pedal assist levels. Holding the light button on for 1 second turns on the front headlight. The (i) button cycles through information on the display and the button on the far right is the on/off button.
In the center of the handlebar is the color LCD display that provides information on:
- Time
- Battery level
- Speed, average speed, max speed
- Odometer, trip distance
- Estimated range based on battery level & pedal assist level
- Pedal assist mode
- Watts
- Calories
Additionally there is a walk mode that will help you walk the bike up a hill or stairs at a few mph. It is turned on by holding the minus button on the control pad for a few seconds.
There is a USB port under the display for charging a smartphone, tablet, or other USB device.
On the right side of the handlebar is the Velo lock on grip, NuVinci C8 continuously variable grip shifter, and rear Tektro Auriga hydraulic brake lever.
Here is a closer look at the NuVinci C8 continuously variable grip shifter. The NuVinci N380 continuously variable rear hub features a 380% gear range from low to high and there are no specific indexed gears like a derailleur system. This grip shifter acts like a volume dial on a radio so you can “dial in” the best gear for the terrain you are riding on.
It makes shifting very easy and intuitive. Shifting can happen when you are not pedaling which is helpful when you are getting into the right gear for accelerating from a stop. The display cleverly changes from a hill profile to flat land as you shift through the gear range.
This is the NuVinci N380 continuous variable “transmission” rear hub. It is “practically maintenance-free, as they are made up of self-contained systems”.
Here is a look at the Tektro Auriga hydraulic rear brake with 180mm rear disc rotor that is attached to the NuVinci N380 rear hub.
The Wellgo pedals have a wide aluminum platform with solid grip and there are reflectors on both ends of the pedals.
The Selle Royale Astro saddle comes stock on the EVELO Delta X and it has a comfortable mid width profile.
EVELO also offers their “Perfect Seat” Guarantee which is very unique! “If you find another seat that you prefer at a local shop, purchase it, and we will reimburse you up to $40! This is just one of the ways we strive to ensure that you are 100% comfortable and satisfied with your bike.”
The Cree LED headlight has aluminum housing and it runs off of the eBike battery so you don’t need to worry about charging additional batteries for the headlight.
The rear aluminum rack has a lot of attachment points for straps, bags, baskets, and panniers. The Delta X comes with full coverage plastic fenders with additional mud flaps on the ends.
The rear rack is rated for 18 kg or around 40 pounds of load.
On the back of the rear rack is the Infini rear light that has a solid and flashing mode options. It runs off of its own batteries.
The kickstand is bolted to the frame and the length is adjustable so that you can set it to your preferred tilt.

Derek Kerton says
Looks totally amazing. Beautiful, too. Everything about it is great, except
– 20 mph limit. It should go 28, especially with a 750W motor
– Color LCD – these tend to wash out in sunlight, like your smartphone. Monochrome LCDs get the info to you, and use the sun to be more visible, not less. Color is a gimmick.
I hope there is a hack for 28mph, but even then, the gearing might be off for that speed.
