The Aventon Pace 500 has a casual look with a speedy side!
In addition to the Deep Black color the Aventon Pace 500 is also available in the SoCal Sand color shown above.
Aventon offers 3 sizes of the Pace 500 that are:
Small for riders in height 5′-1″ to 5′-7″
Medium for riders in height 5′-7″ to 5′-11″
Large for riders in height 5′-11″ to 6′-4″
The bike is this testing & review is the Large frame size.
There is also the step-thru frame option that comes in 2 different sizes:
Small for riders in height 4′-11″ to 5′-4″
Medium for riders in height 5′-4″ to 5′-10″
The step-thru model comes in Celeste or Chalk White color options.
The Pace 500 frame is made up of 6061 aluminum tubing that has been hydroformed to shape the tubing to provide strength where it is needed while minimizing material at lower stress areas.
The tubing welds are smoothed to create a very cohesive look that blends the frame tubes together. This is the top tube connection to the headtube.
Another example of the smoothed welds at the connection of the top tube and seat stay connection at the seat tube. You can also see that the seat post has a quick release lever for quick seat height adjustments.
Here is a look at the 6061 aluminum fork. It has attachment points for fenders.
A 48V 11.6ah (556.8 Wh) lithium battery with Samsung cells is housed in the downtube of the frame. This is a good location to keep the battery weight low and centered which helps with the overall handling of the bike. This battery location also blends in well with the overall look of the bike.
There is a battery level indicator at the top of the battery in addition to the one on the display. In this view you can also see the smoothed welds at the headtube/downtube connection.
This is a look at the left side of the battery with the lock and charging port. You can also see the internal cable routing in the downtube for cable protection and an overall cleaner look.
On the top left side of the battery is the lock. The Pace 500 comes with 2 keys for the battery lock.
On the lower left side of the battery is the charging port that is protected by a rubber cover.
Here is a look at the battery charger that can charge an empty battery in around 4 hours.
This is a look at the downtube of the frame with the battery removed. Once unlocked the battery rotates to the left side for removal from the frame.
When the battery has been removed the bike weighs 42.8 pounds (Large size in this test) which makes it a little easier to pick up and load onto a car rack. The bike with the battery weighs 50.1 pounds (Large size in this test).
The battery can be charged when removed from the bike. The battery weighs 7.3 pounds.
A 500 watt geared rear hub motor provides the pedal assist up to 28mph. There are 5 levels of cadences sensor based pedal assist.
In addition there is a thumb throttle that will provide assist up to 20mph and you don’t need to be pedaling while using the throttle.
There is also a walk mode that moves the bike at 3.5 mph and helps when walking the bike up hill/stairs.
The Aventon Pace 500 is a Class 3 electric bike.
Also in this view is the Shimano Altus 8 speed 11t to 36t cogset.
On the other side of the 500 watt geared hub motor is the 180mm disc brake rotor for the TEKTRO HD-T285 hydraulic disc brakes.
Now let’s take a look at the control center of the Pace 500
The handlebar has a swept back cruiser style that provides a casual and comfortable ride feel.
The handlebar stem is very adjustable from a lower performance position to an upright comfortable position.
On the left side of the handlebar is the ergonomic grip, front Tektro hydraulic disc brake lever, thumb throttle, and control pad.
The ergonomic grips have a “wing” area to provide a platform of support for your wrists. The grips also have a lock on collar to keep them from rotating.
Here is a closer look at the thumb throttle and control pad. The thumb throttle has a wide range of assist that smoothly ranges from just a little to full power. The throttle provides assist up to 20mph and don’t need to be pedaling.
The control pad adjusts the pedal assist levels with the up and down arrows and cycles through information on the display with the on/off button on the lower side of the control pad.
Here is a closer look at the front of the Tektro HD-T285 hydraulic disc brake lever. The reach of the brake lever can be adjusted to fit your hand size.
There are sensors in each brake lever that will stop the assist when either brake lever is engaged.
The large LCD Smart Display is mounted in the center of the handlebar and it provides information on the battery level, speed, pedal assist mode, odometer, trip distance, max speed, average speed, battery voltage, and ride time.
The display has a backlight for good visibility day and night.
The right side of the handlebar features the ergonomic grip, Tektro rear hydraulic disc brake lever, and Shimano Altus 8 speed shifter.
The front 42t chaining has double chainring guards to keep the chain on track and to help keep your pant legs clean.
A Shimano Altus rear derailleur shifts through the 8 speed 11t to 36t Shimano Altus cogset.
Here is a closer look at the rear Tektro HD-T285 hydraulic disc brake with 180mm rotor attached to the 500 watt geared rear hub motor.
And this is the Tektro HD-T285 hydraulic disc brake with 180mm rotor on the front.
The 27.5″ x 2.2″ Kenda Kwick Seven Sport tires have a fairly smooth profile for an efficient ride and channeling to dissipate water. They have a cruiser style that adds to the casual look of the Aventon Pace 500. These are eBike rated tires as well.
The aluminum pedals have a large platform with a grippy surface.
The Velo Comfort saddle has a wider profile for a comfortable ride.
Last but not least is the kickstand that has an adjustable height so you set the angle of the bike when it is parked.

Hi Richard, there is a step-thru version in the works that may be available later this year. Aventon is also working on a 14ah battery.

The step-through version of the Aventon Pace 500 just became available about a week ago. It’s available in two sizes and comes in Chalk White or a sea foam light blue/green color called Celeste. It’s also a very attractive, stylish e-bike.
