trek-super_commuterAs 2016 disappears from view and e-bike manufacturers look to what 2017 will bring, ElectricBikeReport.com outlines what it sees as the main trends that emerged in e-bike design over the last 12 months and of course the highlights.

E-BIKES GO MAINSTREAM….IN THE MEDIA TOO

Whilst its been known for some time that countries like the Netherlands and Germany are leading the e-bike charge in the western world (in terms of sales numbers anyway) 2016 seems to be the year when other countries long languishing in the doldrums really began to catch up – the US and the UK in particular.

E-bikes also made it big in mainstream media too, from the mainstream cycling press to ABC and [Read more…]

The Statistics of the E-Bike Cycle Tourists Record Breaking Journey

In many ways it is hard to believe, but the E-Bike Cycle Tourists quest to set a new world e-bike long distance record in mainland Europe and the UK has come to a successful conclusion after e-biking 27,800kms over the past 16 months.

The journey, which took us through 13 countries from London in April 2015 through to Friedrichshafen in Germany in August 2016, not only smashed the previous record of 16,047kms, but hopefully set a new challenging benchmark for someone else to better. [Read more…]

E-Bike Cycle Tourists Documentary Shows the Way for Cycle Tourists of All Ages [VIDEO]

ebike cycle tourists in FranceBy Gary Corbett

Over five extremely enjoyable days in June the E-Bike Cycle Tourists had a taste of what it is like to be budding film stars during the shooting of a short documentary about our world record breaking e-bike journey.

The documentary, which was filmed by brothers Piers and Luke Spencer-Phillips for our major sponsors Haibike, explored the story behind our decision to sell all of our worldly possessions to essentially live the life of e-bike nomads.

While the eight minute-long documentary is an amazing record of our once-in-a-lifetime journey, more importantly, we believe, is the fact that it highlights everything that is great about modern-day e-bikes. [Read more…]

E-Bike Cycle Tourists Named as ‘Haibike Heroes’

ebike cycle tourists 2By Gary Corbett

As the E-Bike Cycle Tourists have clearly discovered over the past few months, it is amazing what can happen if you persevere at a passion in life for long enough.

Take our ongoing world e-bike long distance ride as a classic case in point.

Not even in our wildest dreams did we ever expect to be still pedalling our Haibike xDuro Trekking e-bikes 15 months and 25,700 kilometres after setting out from London in April, 2015.

Basically the goal was to better the existing world e-bike long distance record of 16,047kms, have a great time exploring mainland Europe and the UK and then head back to Australia after 12 or so months.

But clearly that isn’t how things have panned out. [Read more…]

And we are off – again.

Exactly 315 days and 23,500 kilometres of full-time e-biking since setting out from London in April 2015 to set a new world e-bike long distance record, the E-Bike Cycle Tourists’ ongoing e-bike adventure continued from Hendaye in south west France on June 13.

The plan over the next three months is to pedal our ever-reliable Haibike xDuro Trekking e-bikes through France, Germany and Austria to Budapest in Hungary before returning to home soil in Australia in early September for yet another e-biking adventure. [Read more…]

The Plan for the E-Bike Cycle Tourists Ongoing E-Bike Adventure

DSC06096By Gary Corbett

After 13 months, 22,000 kilometres, 13 countries, a new world e-bike long distance record and enough amazing memories to last a lifetime, the time has come for the E-Bike Cycle Tourists to sit back and assess our ongoing e-bike adventure.

When we set out from London on April 23, 2015, our goal was to set a new world e-bike record in excess of 16,047 kms, add a buffer of 4,000 or so more kilometres to make it all that more difficult for someone else to break our new record and then pack up and go home.

Simple really.

But then something we didn’t plan happened. [Read more…]

Accommodation Choices on a Long Distance e-Bike Tour

ebike touring accomodations 4By Gary Corbett

With the e-Bike Cycle Tourists 10 months and 18,500kms into their ongoing e-bike long distance adventure in Europe and the UK, the question we get asked more than any other is “how do you find suitable accommodation every night”.

While we are pleased to report a number of people have contacted us to say that our exploits have inspired them to set off on their own e-bike long distance cycle tour, it seems many, many others are put off by the thought of not being able to find accommodation to their liking at the end of a long day’s e-biking.

But rest assured there is nothing to worry about, there are many accommodation choices on a long distance e-bike tour. [Read more…]

Enjoying Those “Wow” Moments on eBikes & Everything Else Cyprus Has To Offer

ebike cycle tourists 6By Gary Corbett

There have been many occasions over the past 10 months on the E-Bike Cycle Tourists’ long distance e-bike journey that we have genuinely had to stop e-biking – and I mean STOP – to take in the amazing views on offer.

Actually, the truth of the matter is that there virtually hasn’t been a single day on our 17,600km journey so far where we haven’t stopped to marvel at yet another amazing sight – definitely a case of sensory overload if ever there was one! [Read more…]

With 17,073kms on the odometer and the world e-bike long distance record now safely in our keeping, the e-Bike Cycle Tourists jetted off from Portugal to Cyprus in the eastern Mediterranean today.

But far from planning a holiday in the winter sun on the island that is renowned as the mythological birth place of Aphrodite, the plan is to continue e-biking on a daily basis to continue to add to our kilometer total while waiting out our European Schengen visa exclusion period.

While excited to discover everything that Cyprus has to offer over the next three months, we were both [Read more…]

ebike cycle tourists 3By Gary Corbett

We did it!! After 901 hours of cycling over 220 days at an average of 75 kilometres per day through 12 countries in Europe and the United Kingdom, the e-Bike Cycle Tourists have finally set a new world e-bike long distance record.

The old mark of 16,047kms (9971 miles) – which was set by German Maximilian Semsch who circumnavigated Australia in 2012 – was finally passed on a sunny winter’s day in the Algarve region of Portugal much to our collective delight.

The achievement was celebrated with high fives, hugs and kisses, lunch at a restaurant, a photo session and, of course, a [Read more…]
